President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, dropped a bombshell earlier today in a statement posted on Nintendo’s X/Twitter channels.

In the statement, he reveals the tantalising news that the Nintendo Switch successor will be announced within this fiscal year. Furukawa also confirms that a Nintendo Direct will take place this June, focusing on Nintendo Switch software launching for the rest of 2024. 

“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015.

We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation."

The Japanese fiscal year runs from April to March, so at the very latest, we will know about the ‘Switch 2’ by March 2025.
