  1. Happy birthday!

  2. Star Trek Masturbatathon

Thanks for sharing this, didn't know... agreed, she played that character so brilliantly.
  3. Star Trek Masturbatathon

I wasn't expecting to enjoy Lower Decks, and at first the whole "production line cartoon"ness of it made me cringe... but within 2-3 episodes I realised how much of a love letter it is to all the Star Trek seasons, jammed full of so many references when the characters geek out and talk about canon stuff that it's absolutely fantastic. I've heard you'd have to be a full-on Star Trek historian to be able to understand every reference in every line of dialogue. Highly recommended!
  4. Star Trek Masturbatathon

So Picard S3 = TNG Season 8 with guest star Raffi? I can live with that Can I just say older Worf looks amazing.
  5. Star Trek Masturbatathon

Same here. I'd heard from some that it also falls apart in the second half like S1 did and was bracing myself for it, but for the most part I found it really enjoyable and was looking forward to each next episode, and now to Season 3. Reminded me a bit of The Voyage Home (that cameo on the bus was ace!) and also Future's End from Voyager.
  6. Star Trek Masturbatathon

...what have I just witnessed? I feel possibly even more confused than Q when he's trying to understand human empathy. Guess at least I can tick "see Garrett Wang in his underwear" off the bucket list now.
  7. Star Trek Masturbatathon

I'm halfway through S7 now, missed most of that season back in the day (it was the year I moved to UK). Some good episodes but a fair amount of filler too. Then they suddenly reach the last episode and "oh crap we have to finish it now, and we only have a double episode left... um...
  8. Star Trek Masturbatathon

I'm picturing Desert Bus in space.
  9. Star Trek Masturbatathon

I still remember seeing that one for the first time in the 90s when it was screening, and chatting to friends afterwards about how cool those scenes were and how cool it would be to see more of it. Then the next season it actually happened and we were so excited.
  10. Star Trek Masturbatathon

Indeed. Considering how much Plummer disliked the prosthetics/makeup for the movie, it's fantastic that he went through it again to act out so much more footage for the game. Ignoring the stretched aspect ratio, have a look him once again giving it his all in this performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiV5eciReto
  11. Star Trek Masturbatathon

This has been my most regular issue with pretty much the whole of Season 3. I understand Michael is the main character, but do they really need to make her wear all the hats in every episode, ignoring other crew members (or characters they've met) who are so much more suited to the task? The scriptwriters also tend to forget any trouble or demotions she got before, and constantly reward her for being irresponsible, going against Federation orders, and spontaneously putting everyone's lives in danger... yet Saru, a fantastic captain who upheld the Federation's rubric whenever possible, lost his chair to her (despite her being stripped of her rank as Number One just a few episodes prior to that). The scriptwriters really don't seem to have thought about the bigger picture from episode to episode.
  12. Having learned bass parts in the past - either to play on actual bass guitar or on keys (yep I've played keyboard bass in bands, pitchforks lighter fluid and matches are on the shelf to your left) - I really appreciate when the bass player does something interesting that really makes the song. Compare some RHCP or Black Sabbath basslines, to ones where they just follow the guitar chords (glances over at Metallica) Quite a few successful pop songs over the years too, I've discovered the bass line has really made the song (Hold Me Now by Thompson Twins, Crush by Jennifer Paige and In Your Eyes by Kylie are ones that spring to mind... I'm sure there's more modern examples too) Here's the start of a Flea youtube spiral to get an idea what I mean... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsEF8WejnEc
  13. So turns out it was an easy fix for the Scarlett, MacOS Catalina by default sets the bitrate from the default 48Khz down to 44Khz which makes it freeze. So all fixed and up running with the Scarlett + Macbook + Logic again Have used PreSonus Studio One at a colleague's house, it's great. Really straightforward and intuitive UI/UX, even not being familiar with the software I could find my way around it really easily and figure out what was going on.
