Started playing this with @david\.dakota in co-op... painfully generic and quite dull, though co-op makes it better. Does it get better or does every enemy keep looking the same and the "missions" are variations of swarms of enemies dropping on you or kill them to pick stuff up?!

I would quit now. I know you like Nintendo games that are very traditional; I honestly can't imagine that this game would be your cup of tea and you're just going to get more and more bitter about it if you keep playing. It's not worth doing it to yourself. It's a very social experience and there is, admittedly, a long path ahead before you get to what most players consider to be the best part of the game. But when you do get to that part, you're left with a game that is pretty much like nothing else of last generation consoles in terms of social experience and co-operation. Tens of us on here still play it months after release because it's just that much fun when you're teaming up.

A major aspect of this game is self-improvement; the constant drive to upgrade and better yourself. It's the same thing that underlies the Monster Hunter games and MMORPGs. Some people would call it a grind but honestly, this is far less grindy than an MMORPG. And 'dat shooting mechanics. Shit be polished.

If I was to compare it to a game of prior gens it would be Monster Hunter, but I would say the "grind" on this isn't as fun as it is on MH. MH is definitely more fun and the levels at which you need to work together are similar.

The Raid on this is fantastic though, as the Nightfalls would be if it wasn't for them being missions you've already done tens of times over.

If you don't like it from the get-go though I can't imagine you'll like it at all @dazzybee

So it takes ages to get to the real juice of it?! Hmmm. I really liked Monster Hunter a lot, and weirdly i was saying last night playing Destiny made me want to play that again as I didn't get very far.

I'm not really bitter about it, it's okay, and much better for playing with someone else. But I notice that people seem to be playing for insane amount os hours and didn't understand how that could possibly be.

I can't stop playing a game (AC3 is the only game I've ever done that with) so I'll keep playing, and maybe it'll grow as I become more powerful and the missions vary.

I also don't understand how the game is hundreds of hours. How does that work once the campaign is finished, just loads and loads of multiplayer missions?

Ah really? It isn't a grower then? Like I mentioned I love Monster Hunter though, but I find the world and monsters and even the weapons and armour to be really inventive and different.

Once you've done the campaign @dazzybee it's a simple case of replaying everything over and over again. With a daily mission that's a higher difficulty of missions you've already done as well as a weekly one which again is of à higher difficulty of ones youll have already done.

Then you unlock the Raid which is where the game is most enjoyable... but again, that's just one mission.

On paper it's shite, but there's something about it that keeps me playing. The banter with the guys, the want to level up my gear etc.

It's just like in MH, when you're just hunting the same monsters over and over just to get that gear you want.

I would personally say this game is far more fun than MH, because in MH you were limited to 4 player games and the gameplay was far less fun. I'd take highly polished FPS mechanics coupled to a really good competitive multiplayer mode over Monster 3rd person dodge-slash mechanics.

Why would anyone keep playing anything they described as 'painful'?

I would have stopped playing Destiny a while ago if it wasn't for everyone on here and the whole Reddit Destiny community. The story is the game is crap but all the lore, it's awesome and so poorly implemented that I only really found it through Reddit.

In terms of the game, its easily at its best when it is very hard. And the only time its even close to hard is during Nightfall and the Raid. Once you've got a veritable arsenal of destructive tools, choosing the right one to get the job done - along with the right sub-class build - is a crap load of fun. With the Iron Banner gear I got, my PvP build is changing drastically from my PvE build. Likewise, my build changes as I go through Nightfall and the Raid. I want hard content, the next Raid is going to be exciting.

What's really amazing is how accessible the game is. Because most of it is easy as cake, it doesn't alienate anyone (Although to its detriment, like dazzy said, it gets dull), but on the fringes are some solid hard challenges.

I'm kind of done with it now until the DLC. I still want to run the raid on Hard with my main and my alt, but thankfully I feel I can ease up on it. But hey, the game has been out 3 months now and I'm still playing it. Nightfall and the raid means I've going to jump back in a couple times a week and the expansion hits in two weeks, too.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm playing this game and I realised its tricked me into playing it too long. The rest of the time I'm loving it because I'm genuinely having fun. I've for all intents and purposes completed the game but I'll happily play it for an hour here and there because its built so fucking well.

If you aren't getting that simple enjoyment out of running around, shooting and nova-bombing enemies, then this isn't the game for you. It's only dull because this isn't your sort of game.

A redditor just post a detailed map of Gorgon Labyrinth for the VoG Raid on both Normal and Hard Mode. Thought it would help us alot.

You just replay the same missions over and over again? It sounds weird... But there must be something that's pulling you guys in for a hundred hours... We'll see how me and Dakota get on with it. I do enjoy getting new weapons and armour, more than playing it weirdly.

Socialising with friends and gaming on the same thing that is making me play.

The game itself is much better when difficult. It's fun working together trying to figure out how to tackle the game.

I really don't understand, you said you're aware of Monster Hunter yet say replaying missions is weird? You sure you played MH?

Great post there @Daft, very well put.

I keep playing because I want all the exotic weapons and I want my characters to be level 30. It basically boils down to that, as well as enjoying the shit out of it when it's a challenge.

Haha, true, but they're seems to be way more variety in missions (at the minute), and I just find the crazy weapons and mental monsters way more exciting than generic space and aliens. But we'll see, maybe it'll hook me yet! I certainly don't want to stop playing so far.

It's a highly polished, nicely stylised multiplayer sci-fi shooter - one of my favourite types of online games. The items give it a Pokemon Card esque feature which appeals to my "oh I got a shiny!" nature and....it's sick m8.

Vex Mythoclast is bleeding sick. Its bullets have this real satisfying weighty feel to it. Feels like a weapon like no other.

I'm jealous and hate you but envy you for having it at the same time haha.

I hear it's really lethal in PvP!

How many hard raids has it taken you to get it?

It took me maybe about 3 hard raids (but on the last one I got the equivalent of 2 drops since I hadn't done normal). So call it 4.

Shame it was gimped a fair bit it's still amazing. They're meant to be cranking it back up for PvE too.

@MilaGi I'm afraid I'm not on as planned tonight. I could come on late if you fancied but it'd be around 10ish..? @Blade says he'll be on around 8:45pm.

No worries mate. I'll probably be on until about 10.45ish only working 4hrs tomorrow so not too bad! Well do bounties in the meantime until @Blade gets online :)

@Sheikah that's not too bad then! I had heard they'd nerfed it, which I can understand in PvP to an extent but not in PvE.

Plan C is the shit. I'll be avoiding PvP for a bit because of it.
