A Contest

Recommended Posts

A few of you are pretty good at handling the "Find me a PC for # Price".

So a contest for you.

Aight, i have a friend, he's seen me play TF2 and HL2, and he's thinking about buying Orange box, but all he has is a 3 year old PC that was cheap at the time, would barely run it on Low setting, he wants it to run steadily on ALL MEDIUM SETTINGS or higher, maybe with a little AA But that's no big deal to him.

He already has a fairly new monitor, he already has mouse/keyboard/speakers also.

You've got a £200 Budget.

Rules:

- Postage has to be taken into account

- Multiple websites may be used for different parts, but never forget to check postage.

- NO MORE THAN £200, not even a penny.

- System must contain:

# Proper Case

# DVD Drive (RW Not necessary)

# Hard Drive of 80GB Or Over

# Mobo (obviously)

# GPU OR Onboard Graphics

# Soundcard OR Onboard sound.

# PSU That will cope with the parts you've picked out

# Memory

- Second hand parts are allowed yes, just don't forget about postage etc.

EDIT: Changed the thread a little, to a more hypothetical situation.

I was going to make a thread 'Find me a computer for under £200' purely for joke purposes earlier seeing all the threads recently. haha

Design brief? Is it for day to day office work? Gaming? Music? Movies? Is it for use in the bedroom, office or living room?

Makes a huge difference to what parts need to be used (even if there isn't a huge deal of leeway for £200). Also are 2nd hand parts allowed?

Can the case be like an old cardboard box/ can we cheapen items. And does it have to actually work?

Oh yeah, one other thing. Are Barebones units (i.e. just add a CPU, HDD, DVD Drive and RAM) cheating?

Am i taking this too seriously?

Am i really this bored on a Saturday night?

Ouch! Now that is a challenge!

Any chance you could find out what hard drives are in his current machine? If it's a SATA Hard Drive then he could just salvage that and the optical drive(s) from that machine. He could then use the money saved for a half decent graphics card!

This is abit silly. We need a minimum of 80Gb for a HDD and a budget of £250-£300.

Aight i'll give you the 80gb HDD, but the price stays as is, it's all he can afford.

Also, no using old parts.

Also, remember he isn't a real person.

I don't care if this is over, it's only because of the shipping. It works out £199.64p without. if anyone can beat this i will be surprised! The little bastard will have to save his milk money for a extra week.

8 series graphics card, dual core, Abit motherboard all for under £200!

Do AMD's not come with a stock cooler?

They should if they don't.

AMDs do, OEM processors don't. Intel do OEMs too. It's for people who use 3rd party coolers, saves paying for a cooler you're not going to use.

You either need to buy Retail versions or a seperate cooler.
