News: Jet Black Games Developing For Wii/DS

Posted by Tom "Tphi" Phillips - Apr 17th 2007 14:48

Former Electronic Arts Canada peeps form new company to focus on new Wii and Nintendo DS content. Score!

The title says it all, really. Industry veterans from the Electronic Arts Canada studio have formed Jet Black Games, a development company that will focus on developing "original and licensed intellectual properties for the Nintendo DS and Wii". Between the talent at the new studio are people with careers that have spanned two generations of consoles, while the founders can be credited with numerous blockbusters and platinum selling titles to their names.

"With the launch of our new studio we've brought together all the key elements to develop top games: proven experience and talent, the desire to push the creative envelope, commitment to making games we ourselves want to play, and all the resources and support systems needed to perform," states Roger Freddi, Co-founder and CEO of Jet Black.

"Both the Nintendo DS and Wii's WiFi capabilities provide an advanced medium for Jet Black to bring already popular franchises to an even broader worldwide audience. These recognised licensed properties serve to ensure that Jet Black is a name to affiliate with Nintendo games, and nicely complement the original IP on which weíre working."

Jet Black has strategically aligned itself with Flashman Studios Inc., a business management firm specialising in interactive entertainment endeavours. This alliance presents immediate opportunities for Jet Black to leverage Flashman's roster of well-known intellectual properties, and situates the studio at the forefront of Nintendo's revolution in gaming.

"We are confident in the capabilities of Jet Black's exceptional team, and know our strong global alliances and years of game experience will help grow their business", Brad Young, CEO of Flashman said. "Our proven success in cultivating the right match of intellectual property, publisher, and developer will allow Jet Black to do what they do best - build great games, create inspirational ideas, and develop great technology."

More as we get it.

"Peeps" is what all the cool kids are saying these days.

Or so I'm told.

Clarification: 'Peeps' is indeed a term used by kids these days. Whether these people are cool can be anyone's judgement. Although, those that DO NOT tend to use the phrase would be people that many refer to as 'chavs'. Using that logic those that DO use the word are the opposite of these 'chavs', therefore, the group that is outwardly known as 'moshers' (I think).

Perhaps we are looking into this slightly too much...

I've used 'peeps' my whole life. And I'm old enough to take a few of you across my knee ;)

Ok, that makes me sound over 40, but...

'build great games, create inspirational ideas'

That's something EA is incapable of.:/ I mean, they may be a different company now, but they were still originally part of EA.

Unless I read the name Will Wright I'm not getting too excited over something EA, or former EA members, does.
