Details on how you will play the Wii version of FIFA 08 have surfaced. Read all about it inside...

EA have released details on the Wii version of FIFA 08, including how you will be playing the game. Forget the old rumours about EA working on some kind of foot strap for the Remote - you control this games with your hands.

The game has changed the camera from the common left-to-right gameplay, and instead have given us a bottom-to-top viewpoint, similar to Sensible Soccer. This is to make the controls feel easier to perform. Flick the Remote left or right to pass the ball left or right, and pull it up hard and fast to shoot at the ball - the harder you move the Remote, the more power the ball has. During a free kick, the angle the nunchuck gives the ball relevant spin. Throw-ins are done by holding the Remote and Nunchuck above your head and making a throwing motion. The Wii version also allows you to control your goalkeeper directly during the game.

The Wii version will also contain various mini-games which utilise Miis, including a Table Football game, and use the Remote in different ways. The game will also contain an online mode, complete with leaderboards and online tournaments. It also has online updates in the form of team roster updates.

FIFA 08 is due out this September.

This actually sounds fun.. especially that Mii-oriented table football.

meh! the only parts im liking is the miis and the throws! the other stuff like passing and shooting look very clumsy and annoying so hopefully we will be able to use the gc or classic controller aswell!

just like how xbox is spelt "h-a-l-o", the wii is spelt "m-i-n-i-g-a-m-e-s".

At least they are trying though, I suppose.

Bottom-to-Top? Is that an overhead view? I hope that it can be changed if we don't like it.
Any word on PES for Wii?

I see how N-E has conviniantly left out the fact that the Wii version will be based more around the PS2 version (in other words, it will look like another lame 3rd party effort)

Does anyone else's heart sink when they read things like:

"Throw-ins are done by holding the Remote and Nunchuck above your head and making a throwing motion."

Talk about gimmicky! I'm afraid that it's things like this that are making the Wii everything I feared. Yes that sort of thing will probably appeal to non-gamers, but it turns hardcore gamers away in their droves. Does anyone agree or am I just getting overly worried?

They should just pick a conventional control system such as that from mario strikers charged football, albeit without the stupid goal keeping bits

Come on!!! This is EA for gods sake! Have you so quickly forgotten the days of the PS port, at least they're putting a serious effort in. And the mini games sound class! Nythin which makes use of the Miis is gd news - and many a game has had mini games better than the main thing.

I really don't like football - but this actually sounds like it might be worth buying?
