News: More Nintendo Power Tidbits

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Jun 29th 2007 19:29

Eiji Aonuma would like to make a version of Wind Waker for the Wii!

We previously reported on some lovely game details from the August 2007 edition of Nintendo Power, but more details have been discovered. Keep on reading to find out what juicy pieces of information have been salvaged from the pages of Power this month.

Okami (PS2)
Capcom have gone on record to say that they have no plans to bring Okami over to the Wii. Shame.

Ghost Squad (Wii)
25 weapons will be included in the Wii version, including thermal and night vision goggles allowing for a more expansive game experience than the arcade version.

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground (Wii/DS)
Customisable skating videos can be created, and the game expands on Project 8's Nail the Trick feature by adding Nail the Grab and Nail the Manuals maneuvers.

Battallion Wars II (Wii)
The game is confirmed for a release in September (presumably in America).

Tomb Raider Anniversary (Wii)
The Wii Remote will be used to aim weapons, with the Nunchuk allowing quick flicks to dodge attacks. Wii-specific puzzles will be included that require use of the Wii Remote's unique features to solve them. Crystal Dynamics have also mentioned that the game will give them the experience to be able to create a future original IP for the Wii.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Wii)
Taking place in the Crystal Chronicles universe, the four main races from the GameCube version are available and the main hero is "mature", apparently meaning more developed and stronger. The game is reportedly very story-driven and includes many cinematic events.

Excerpt from an interview with Team Ninja's Tomonobu Itadaki
"I think it’s (Wii) a very interesting piece of hardware, and it’d be interesting for us to challenge that area as well. The Wii has kind of carved its own niche within the home console arena. It’s almost in an entire category by itself. I do think that it’s totally different from the DS, though…I think it would depend on how you make it (a hard-core action title on Wii). You would really have to design it for the strengths of the hardware. If you used the kind of control scheme that most developers are using right now for the Wii and tried to do a really hard-core action game, I think people would just throw up their hands and say “No, we can’t deal with that”. The Wii has its own reason for existence. If you don’t adapt what you’re doing to fit that, then there’s not much point in bringing an action game to the platform. (regarding possible Wii action game) I’m currently brain-training about that right now (laughs).”

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Eiji Aonuma, who has been the assistant director and director of Zelda titles such as Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Phantom Hourglass, has revealed that he would love to make a version of the Wind Waker for the Wii. Could this be one of the first Nintendo 'Wiimakes' if Aonuma's dreams are fulfilled?

Geometry Wars: Galaxies (Wii/DS)
The Wii and DS versions will offer the original Retro Evolved game along with a new 50 level galaxies game with new enemies, multiplayer and around 8 hours of gameplay.

The most exciting tidbit from that selection would probably have to be the possibility that Wind Waker could be brought over to the Wii. Stay tuned to N-Europe for more on all these games.

I don't really want a port, but if we got a Director's Cut, that would be cool. Wasn't there 2 dungeons planned for Wind Waker that didn't end up in the final version?

A lot of extra unfinished content has been found via Action Replays. Nice idea.

Budget price, better marketing, real extras - then we will have something worth buying on our hands

Not surprising seeing as Miyamoto said once that they'll be porting over some GC games is the Wiimote fits with the game (like Zelda). I'll love to see the suppose two dungeons left out of the final version and more stuff to do when you're sailing

A Wii version of WW would be nice, as long as it's cheaper than a full priced game. I wouldn't pay full price for a game I've already got.

But whenever I re-play it I stop just before the Triforce Hunt. Seriously can't be bothered with that D:

WW was fun at the time, but I do think one was enough. I wonder if Aonuma would consider a another u-turn in the series' graphical presentation? Phantom Hourglass seems to have been better received than Twighlight Princess over there.

hmmmm...i wonder if the WW is a TOTALY new adventure or a port!?

he never said a port he just said "to make a version of the Wind Waker for the Wii" so it could be something COMPLETLY NEW!!!

Question is: If it happens will it be an almost straight port like RE4 (Updating the graphics a bit, and maybe add some here and there) or will it be something more like Metroid: Zero mission (Major overhaul in almost every aspect, adding tons of new stuff)?

make a different zelda because it's too long to wait until after WW for another good zelda. TP and WW were really good to play but you feel empty after playing them through. don't know why.

Me and two friends just started playing FF:CC on the Cube again a couple of days ago, and I kinda like the game. Looking forward to FFCC:CB very much indeed!

And for a new Zelda game.. I cant really make up my mind and say if I wont a new WW or a new game like TP. Liked them both, but if I had to pick a game, it would have been TP.

if they want to bring wind waker to the wii it would be really great but they have to create at least 4 more dungeons that are really big.

I really want Tomb Raider on the Wii, it'll also be interesting to see what Crystal Dynamics can come up with in regards to a new IP for the Wii.

Pity about Okami, ah well if you really want to play it just get a PS2, they're great and there's a ridiculous amount of great games on it!

Porting WindWaker would be ok, if it was budget.
Another cell-shaded Zelda would also be ok...allthough they should "evolve" the cell shadeing some more.

But another WindWaker style game as in gameplay? no thanks.
TWW was a great game, but easily the Zelda game with the "least content" ever, and the most repedative.
For one generation, Nintendo was outdone by third partys. (Beyond Good and Evil, specificaly).

I think it was done to the fact Nintendo rushed the TWW to boast cube sales, though.
I dont think it came from lack of skill, or anything else.

TP had a long development period, and was one of the most divirse, no-repedative, and big games Nintendo has ever made.

Still, even a WW style game with a large development time shouldnt be done, imho.

If we get another cell-shadeing zelda, it should be completely different.

I dont mind ports, and I realise how much harder it is to create an original game, but like many others i'm fed up with the hseer amount of ports the Wii seems to be getting. I also find the team ninja comments less than encouraging. A hardcore action game is just what the wii needs, we have enough casual titles already.

I would definitely buy it. I loved the windwaker. More dungeons and something better than the triforce hunt... the triforce hunt was the only thing I didn't like about it.

Wait a minute, if the Wii is going to get nothing but ports of old games, does that make it the least innovative console of all time?

I sure as hell don't remember playing NES games on my SNES, SNES games on my N64 or N64 games on my GC.

The last thing Nintendo should do is encourage more ports.

I'd pay full price for a Wii-make of wind waker if they included the bonus disk with it. Never got a chance to play master quest before my bro snaffled it off to uni...

It better not be a port...but I doubt it will be a sequel.

It may fall into the middle of those, like WW with the gameplay accessible with action replay...without action replay...

ORIGINAL EFFORTS PLEASE EIJI!

Don't waste resources on an inferior rework that'll only sell one unit.

Work on a SUPERIOR ZELDA game instead to "compensate" us LOYAL consumers that were let down by the disappointement that was Twilight Princess (both GCN original and last minute Wii port for profit maximsation).
