News: Mew Giveaway At Pokémon Tour

Posted by Tom "Tphi" Phillips - Aug 8th 2007 22:32

If Pokéfans head down to their local Toys "R" Us this summer, they could be in for a pleasant surprise...

Celebrating the launch of Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, Toys "R" Us stores across the country are hosting a series of Pokémon Summer Day Camps, sponsored by Nintendo. The events will feature playable demos of Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii, face painting, goodie bags, and the chance to download the rare Pokémon Mew onto your copy of the game.

The events should be a great place to meet up with other Pokéfans, to battle and trade with others, as well as to collect stamps around the event to pick up the freebie goodies on offer. Apparently, the first 50 to complete each Day Camp will receive something even more extra special...

Gamers wishing to get a Mew must bring along a GBA with either Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen or Emerald (for some reason it doesn't sound like the Pokémon can be transferred directly onto a DS cartrige).

The Toys "R" Us store tour dates are as follows:

  • Glasgow – Helen Street Thursday 2nd August
  • Teesside Saturday 4th August
  • Leeds Sunday 5th August
  • Warrington Monday 6th August
  • Liverpool Tuesday 7th August
  • Belfast Thursday 9th August
  • Derby Saturday 11th August
  • Solihull Sunday 12th August
  • Oldbury Monday 13th August
  • Coventry Tuesday 14th August
  • Peterborough Wednesday 15th August
  • Swindon Friday 17th August
  • Cardiff Saturday 18th August
  • Bristol Sunday 19th August
  • Southampton Monday 20th August
  • Poole Tuesday 21st August
  • Oxford Thursday 23th August
  • Reading Friday 24th August
  • Brent Cross Saturday 25th August
  • Croydon Sunday 26th August

Leave a comment if you've already attended, or if you're planning to go!

Thanks to N-E reader Telmo Couto for the heads-up on this!

As usual even with public transport the closest ones to me are hard to get to and have already been and gone. What I don't get is why Nintendo don't just distribute over Nintendo WFC in the same way they gave out gifts for Animal Crossing DS especially

This is why I hate 'Event' Pokémon :(

"What I don't get is why Nintendo don't just distribute over Nintendo WFC"

I heard that for the three proper d/p event pokemon they will be - but you need mystery gift enabled...

I have - yay! :)

i'm not sure if you can ever get any over WFC, one of the main events in japan to get darkrai was by going to see the pokemon movie i think... :(

They never do any of these things in the East, and yet they put them in Solihull...where the hell's that? :S

Solihull is near Birmingham. Thats a very vague description of where it is but thats all I know about it. I've been there for an ice hockey tournament but know nothing more about it.

Back on topic, I hate how they give these away at events. Yes, I think they should do it over Nintendo WFC but then with so many hackers around, there are already plenty to get on there. Personally, I dont see why people bother hacking the game. Do it the right way. Me, I've had it for nearly two weeks and no trading online cause I dont see that I'll get a legit pokemon. Just have to waste pokeballs on catching the big three though.

The sad part is that everyone who own games like Fire Red or Emerald, and are unable to get to those stores, is that they will never see these "gifts".

Portugal never had a single even for example, and we do have Toys R' Us.

It's quite stupid, seeing how you can now connect your DS online... Why aren't they giving these away to those who own the games? I mean, you can connect them to Diamond/Pearl...

Good to see Nintendo still intending on satisfying customers that have supported one of the greatest and most successful game franchises of all time, one that has outsold GTA, an achievement that very few Nintendo franchises have been able to achieve...
