Feature: What Your MK Character Says About You

We all have our favourite Mario Kart racers, but have you ever stopped to think why you prefer certain characters? N-Europe takes a shot at revealing the real reasons...

Mario:

You like to be the recognised one when you enter a room. You're a laid back person with strong morals and you’ll always try your hardest to become the best, even if your abilities aren’t as good as others. You hope that skill and hard work will ultimately bring you glory. You have a blood-boiling hatred of loud, arrogant racers and wish for them to be lost amongst the stars of Rainbow Road.

Luigi:

Similar to Mario in the vein of having strong morals and being laid back. You feel challenged by others with higher abilities yet always rise to the task with intense, innate skill - but forever you feel you don’t get the recognition you justifiably deserve. You have a deep desire to see the heavier racers disappear deep into Yoshi Falls.

Peach:

Being a caring, laid back person you know you can enjoy the ride wherever it takes you. You appreciate the flowers, the sky and the incidental pixel art dotted around the Mushroom Kingdom. If you lose or win, you're not too bothered - you’re too busy nursing those crushed by a Bullet Bill.

Daisy:

Sporting the outside appearance of Peach, you use this to your advantage as you deviously pretend to care - yet think nothing of distributing a blue shell on the last corner of a race. You’re headstrong and hide the fact that your worst enemies are the smaller racers as they get in the way of your all-conquering dominance.

Toad:

As a loyal servant you’ve waited on others many a time and been the shoulder to lean on in times of crisis. So when racing you feel like the “little guy” finally deserves to shine. You have a dislike of the bigger racers as they tend to barge you around, yet coming first and having your moment in the spotlight will make everyone see just how strong you really are.

Donkey Kong:

Being built like a tank may have its benefits out on the track but you're a big softy really. As equally forgetful as you are hairy, you have an urge to win if only to ensure that your hard-man image is kept up. Liking the smaller racers, you opt to dislike the bruisers of the road, hoping they meet their match by smashing into a troupe of moo moo’s.

Wario & Waluigi:

Admit it, you’ve always got a scheme on the go. You would think nothing of harbouring three red shells for three laps whilst holding onto a golden mushroom. You like to show off your schemes and when it works it’s time to sit back and enjoy the ensuing chaos. You show off your dislike for all other racers by your attitude that racing is only for those tough enough. Whoever crosses you better watch their back.

Bowser:

Everyone knows you as the moody one and everyone wants you to fail, yet you like those odds. You like to master the unlikeable and become the one who doesn’t conform. You’re a complex person and you think things through before committing to them. You’ve probably settled on Bowser just to cause outrage online. Your dislike of every other racer means that those hours spent time-trialling will prove invaluable in your quest for glory.

Yoshi & Koopa:

The elusive ones. Care-free and gentle on the outside... yet is that a blue shell I see tucked in your pocket? Those using Yoshi and Koopa may appear as if they are careless, yet they hide a deep, deep desire to see all those before them fail. The ones to watch... Especially on the final lap!

Your Mii:

You're comfortable with yourself, generally friendly and you like to add a touch of personality to what you do. You feel that your individuality stands you in good stead as extra motivation to win races. With that in mind you feel that you can be the next best thing out on the track. Your dislike for all things ‘common’ means you want to beat every racer out there.

So, who do you always race with? Let us know below why your character is the best...

Quite a good read :)
You should consider psychology as a career Tphi heheh...
Too bad you forgot to mention the babies (for some reason I almost always play as Baby Luigi), but for when I pick Bowser that description is pretty accurate!
Cheers!

I like the balanced racers, no outstanding attributes but good all-rounders... I've always picked Luigi as he's Mario's younger brother and I'm a younger bro too... also, like Luigi, I'm not as fat as my bro! Haha

Now I've invested a lil more time in the game (Guitar Hero III still owns my soul lol) and having unlocked my Mii, I'll be using my Mii all the way!

I usually go for Luigi and Yoshi, but I think that's because they're speedy and well.. green!

I always pick Diddy, what does that make me? Someone with a playful disposition who enjoys a good laugh with a strong desire to win but not at the cost of losing enjoyment or friends?

So true about my favorite character Luigi and about my personality in that I am quite laid back and feel challenged by others online when playing, but its all for the fun of it. "but forever you feel you don’t get the recognition you justifiably deserve" thats also true due to in past experience I have felt abit like the black sheep at school etc. When it mentions about Yoshi Falls that is untrue, my favorite track is Koopa Cape.

Oh sorry, didn't read those tiny letters up there (could be a bit larger, no? heheh). Then good job Mark Lee.

I've played as Yohsi a lot, and it's fairly accurate ^^

but lately I've started using one of the unlockables, so if you put up a spoiler warning and made another feature for them then that would be kind of cool...

I choose Rosalina... what does that say about me? In Wario's Bike. And then I hum the bike music from No More Hereos.

That or my Mii... or an amusing Mii.

Mario all the way, I've always been one for the greater good! Use him in every Mario game, you just can't beat Mario!

Saying that I don't really use 'em in Smash Bros. Was considering using him for Brawl and may still do but not too sure - Mario always seem a bit boring in Smash Bros when you compare 'em to quite a few of the other characters :(

I think keeping the hidden characters hidden is a good thing. Some people may not have played this yet ;)

Maybe a future article for the hidden characters may appear?! Hope so :)

Game was ultimately not to required standard, so have opted not to purchase at full retail price due to inexcusable lack of multiplayer grand prix and free for all battle along with NO TRACK EDITOR, lack of new items, lack of optional damage meter, lack of 200cc mode and lack of customisable carts F Zero GX style among other things.

But, in saying that, i'll probably get the game still when it is considerably cheaper for multiplayer purposes, most likely through an online purchase.

Multiplayer grand prix - The online more than makes up for it.
Track editor - Are you joking? This isn't Smash Bros. The levels are in full 3D and it'd require a lot of work and memory to make new maps.
New items - I see what you're getting at, but it isn't the be all and end all.
Damage meter - What?
200cc - No.
Customisable karts - That would have been nice, but it's not game ruining. Nor are your other points.

The idea for an "optional" Damage Metre involves an extra level of difficulty for those that desire it.

Once turned on, any projectile that makes contact with your kart/player will accumulate damage. Accumulate too much damage and your cart will be forced to retire. Different powerups would deliver different amounts of damage. Carts would smoke as more damage is accumulated, and in order to repair the damage, you'll need to drive through a pit stop located somewhere on the course. It'll be a similar concept to recovery in F Zero with the strip on the side. Once you drive through this area, your cart damage metre returns to normal.

Extra unlockables could be available to those that complete Grand Prix races with this option turned on.

Haven't played MK Wii yet, but I usually used a combo of Toadett & Daisy in DD. Toadette for the super mushroom, and Daisy to drive whoever I'm playing against crazy. HI, I'M DAISY!

There is a damage meter, it consists of 3 balloons stuck to the back of your kart. :p

Yeah, You hit the nail on the head with my character. I've always been yoshi in every party game, every sports game and whenever Yoshi is a playable character in the mario world. Always want to win, but don't brag about any skills!!

Well I play with Peach 99.9% of the time(even in melee and all other mario games) and that personality is defiantly not me! I'm probably Daisy...looks harmless at first sight in my pink outfit but will soon DESTROOOOOOY YOOOOOOOOOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoa, I always use Yoshi, and that pretty much desribes me perfectly. Well, except on DS, where Dry Bones and his tank rule all.
