News: WiiWare Dr. Mario Named And Priced

Posted by Steven Penny - May 8th 2008 15:06

A new video reveals the price of Dr. Mario for WiiWare to the outcry of “Doctor, doctor, I feel faint!”

A brand new Nintendo Channel video reveals that upcoming WiiWare title Dr. Mario now has a full title of Dr. Mario Online RX. This comes after previous rumours of the full title being either Dr. Mario’s Virus Buster or Dr. Mario & Bacteria Extermination. Well now you know…

The video also displays pricing for the game. At 1000 Wii Points (the equivalent of $10) it could perhaps be considered rather steep for a non-retail game. There is still no North American release date for the game (and therefore it is not a confirmed WiiWare launch title), but it’s worth noting that it’s readily available in Japan.

I think WiiWare titles might have to be rare purchases...

Sorry Lenin, I've removed a couple of your comments because of the swearing. Just try and tone it down in future, or replace the words with asterisks. ;)

Sorry Comrade Nathan, but when these capitalist scumbags want to take 1000 points off me in exchange for the likes of Doctor ****ing Mario, it makes me rather angry.

Don't buy it then.

@ Matty_gibbon

Yeh we have that choice, but its still expensive for anyone who does buy

Especially when you could just get an awesome N64 game for the same price!

Nintendo will always be a rip-off merchant.
£70 a cartridge anyone?

"but its still expensive for anyone who does buy"

You'd be a clown to buy something like this if you think it's too expensive.

"Especially when you could just get an awesome N64 game for the same price!"

I don't think there was an online enabled Dr Mario game on N64, but I could be mistaken...

Your right D_prOdigy. Nothing was online on the N64.

The price IS a bit steep but did we expect anything less from Nintendo? Who knows, one day they may have a wii-ware sale!

It'd be great if they started doing sales on their digital software, I really think they've sold enough of their classic titles that they can afford to drop the prices by a few hundred points...

I think the guy that monitors those sales is also charged with the task of topping up the Wii point availability on the NoE site, so you can imagine how up-to-his-neck-in-it he is already...

1000 points for Dr. Mario.

Screw you, Nintendo.

I thought $10 sounded a bit steep for a WiiWare title and I guess it is. This had better be damn impressive because it's one of the few titles I'll no doubt be buying when I've got a Wii.

Something else that could put people off is the lack of storage space as well… when people are spending 100 Wii Points on a game they're unlikely to want to have to delete it to free up space for other saves and games.

Any wonder they're a target or piracy and hacking so soon along in the console's lifespan?

Well, I know this isn't related and it would have happened anyway, but I actually do sometimes hate giving Nintendo money because I already know how frickin minted they are. £2.4 BILLION POUNDS OF **PROFIT** FOR GODS SAKE. GIVE US SOMETHING BACK YOU GREEDY MONEYGRABBING ****S!

You make a fair judgement. You'd think with the Wii and DS doing so well (that's the reason Nintendo isn't dropping their prices after all, isn't it?) it could afford to give us WiiWare titles a bit cheaper. Bah!

wel a 1000 points may be 10$ but here it's 11 euro...so it's extremely expensive.

Only 64 games are worth buying(and a few snes exceptions)

800 points would be a better price, but I can live with 1000. It does have online play to be fair.

I doubt w'll see any first party Nintendo titles for below 100 points.

Are you lot still on pocket money, Tight, or just a bunch of moan for the sake of it people?

You can get 2000 Wii Points for £12 online, so £6 for this? A Steal

Even at £7, a steal

Is $10 that expensive? 3 small lattes cost $10. A small pizza costs $12. So to buy an online enabled puzzle game that I have always loved for $10? It's cheap to me.
Crassa Says:
May 9th, 2008 at 03:05 || Total Comments: 96
nope 10$ and £6 is ok but a 2000 wii points card costs in belgium 22 euro or £17.4 or $34

so this game costs for us £8.5 or 17$

Wow. I'm in disbelief that some people aren't seeing any problem with the pricing. Not only is Dr. Mario nothing to get too excited about, it far exceeds the pricing for the kind of game that it is.

It's not to do with being cheap, it's to do with common sense. Some people honestly do seem to blindly follow Nintendo.
Bone Says:

Common Sense? Blindly following Nintendo? Get over yourself please. Dont you think that maybe its no us that have the problem?

So people moaned about the price of Nes, Snes, and N64 games, its too much you all scream and the service gets 5 million downloads.

NeoGeo, Turbo, C64, Master System, MegaDrive, all too expensive you cry and now Wii Ware games at least 1000 points oh my god its so overpriced !!!

Yes a packet of fags or two pints of lager is dear but i'd rather take the game, if you obsess that much then dont buy the game it really is that simple.

And in closing Dr Mario is a classic game with a great following and those people will not moan about the price
Sheikah Says:

I'm not 'crying' anything; the only one who seems to be getting hot under the collar is you. But sure, if you want to keep kidding yourself that this is value for money or even well-priced then carry on doing so. It might well be good, but that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo are overcharging. Don't worry, I won't be buying the game. But that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to an opinion on the matter.

By the way, using statistics to prove the popularity of something is never a smart move. I could easily use the same logic to say how Need For Speed and the latest Sonic games must be truly awesome, due to continuously topping the UK charts. People are idiots, they will throw money at anything.
Bone Says:

So 'people are idiots' because they enjoy Need For Speed and Mario & Sonic!! Lol oh what a great Gaming God that you are.

It would be a crap market if everyone liked the same games.

I own and enjoy Mario & Sonic so I'm a idiot anyway, oh i so wish i was a tight ass like you

More Brain Training had a game that's basically Dr. Mario as the last one in the menu, so I'll just stick to that rather than pay €10 for a NES title with re-worked multiplayer.

"So 'people are idiots' because they enjoy Need For Speed and Mario & Sonic!! Lol oh what a great Gaming God that you are."

I must retract my statement. You are after all correct; only the very best games top the UK charts on a weekly basis. You will never see movie game tie-ins, Need For Speed, or annually rehashed FIFA games in the charts. Oh, wait...

"It would be a crap market if everyone liked the same games."

Welcome to the United Kingdom.

"I own and enjoy Mario & Sonic so I'm a idiot anyway, oh i so wish i was a tight ass like you"

Only a fool would continue down a path insisting that new Sonic games are anything but a shadow of their 2D incarnations.

This is not worth 1000 is what I'm saying, 500-800 maybe. It's only got the online going for it, Dr.Mario is hardly a deep and long lasting title. I would not value the game over about £3 in reality.
