News: Beyond Good & Evil 2 In Development

Michel Ancel has revealed that a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil is in development! Rejoice!

We couldn't be happier at N-E Headquarters. Beyond Good & Evil was one of those title that comes along out of the blue, scoops you up, and completely immerses you into its world for the duration. And then afterwards leaves you hungry for more.

Well, creator Michel Ancel (of Rayman fame) has said that more is on the way. Speaking to Jeuxvideo, he has said:

"I've been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2. We have been in production for one year, carrying out tests with a small team. At the moment, it's at the pre-production stage, Ubisoft have not officially given their agreement yet."

"We want to remain within the continuity of the first, a wide variety of game phases with many emotions in the gameplay and in the characters. This time we focus on the future of the planet, and the relationship with the animals."

So while Ubisoft haven't yet green-lit the work-in-progress title, the fact Ancel has not forgotten the project and has been working on it behind the scenes for a year is a great sign. The gaming prodigy usually has a fair say in what he can make at Ubisoft, so we've got everything crossed for an official announcement soon. And a Wii version? You betcha.

Thanks to our friend SmallBoy for the translation.

"And a Wii version? You betcha."

Are we sure of this? *has seen too many games go to just the 360 and PS3*

OMG!!!!

I better not be dreaming

*smacks self across head with plank of wood*

OUCH....hey I am awake, YAY.

I'm almost sure the original game sold best on the Gamecube, so hopefully a Wii version for the sequel wouldn't be that farfetched, especially considering the Wii's userbase now.

^ it did sell better on the GC from what I remember. Plus, I think the controls would be a nice swaying factor for a Wii version what with the camera and such. UbiDays is on the 28th of May so we may hear a confirmation then as to the game finally getting properly developed. I hope so. Have been wanting a sequel for years since I was loaned the first game and finished it. Have never been able to get hold of a GC copy in mint condition. It's harder to find than birds teeth.

If it's not greenlit, what are the odds of a confirmation on Ubi Days? I doubt it... then again, this news is gonna spread, and other gamesites (IGN etc) will have a chance to interview Ancel there and possibly get some more details. In fact, maybe Ubi will realise (now that the news is spreading) that people reallt want a sequel, and back Ancel up before the Ubi Days.

You know, I may just buy a 360 for this if it's not coming to Wii...

I got the first game for the 360 but the stupid backwards compatibility dosent work on it. Is it really worth buying for the Cube? I dont know how such a game passed me by the first time.

It's a smaller Zelda with a touch more emphasis on story and characterisation. If you haven't experienced it, you really need to :)

So, only for 360 and PS3. Too bad.

Like Darkflame said, it's not concrete yet, so there's no telling what format it'll land on.

So delighted to hear this though, BG&E was one of my favourite last gen games! *rushes off to dig out the GC copy and play it again*

It's coming to 360 and PS3. Not Wii.

Fuck.

It sold best on GC and the majority of the GC players will now have a Wii. We know Ancel likes the Wii because of Rabbids. Plus, they are unlikely to ignore the massive install base.

It really depends on what Ancel wants to do with the game, technologically, but I really wouldn't rule a Wii version out yet, no matter what people are saying at the mo.

it's not just "people" saying things; Ancel said he's developing it exclusively for the 360 and PS3.
