Rumour: Resi 2 Wiimake Confirmed?

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Aug 27th 2008 17:05

Trusted Japanese gaming publication Famitsu have allegedly published details on a Wii remake of the GameCube horror classic, Resident Evil 2.

Capcom are pretty well known to the Wii fanbase for providing some of the best ports and remakes currently on the system. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition remains one of the most critically acclaimed Wii games of all time (it's sold about 1.6 million copies worldwide, as well), and Capcom are hoping to continue their success with a remake of the 360 horror-hit Dead Rising and, to a lesser extent, a straight port of the GameCube title Resident Evil 0 in Japan.

Some interesting information has emerged from Japanese gaming bulletin board 2ch, which has allegedly been obtained from the latest issue of the Japanese publication Famitsu. The board claims that Famitsu have announced a full remake of Resident Evil 2 for the Wii akin to the remake of Resident Evil on the GameCube.

Parts of the game supposedly take part from a viewpoint similar to Resident Evil 4, with addition story elements and a new knight-like "swordsman" creature apparently confirmed as new content.

This story is currently 100% rumour for now until we hear further information from either Famitsu, other people who have bought the magazine or Capcom themselves. Stay with N-Europe for the latest news as it breaks.

Never played RE2 before, but i have RE4 Wii and i love that game, so if they are going to port RE3 to the Wii, i will surely be happy.

I'll purchase a resi 2 remake, as for dead rising I found it boring on 360 so I won't bother with wii version.

WOOT!!!!!

RE2 is still my fav in the RE series, the GC REmake of the first game was like playing the true vision of RE and was disapointed neither of the others, especially 2 got the same treatment.

YAY*

*if rumor turns true

It's my least favourite of all the Resi's and I have t on the 'cube already, so it'd have to be as different as Resi & REmake for me to buy it...

That sounds awesome if true I really hope it is as RE2 was one of my favourites back in the day.

Makes sense on some levels perhaps; they're likely to want to keep releasing titles for the Wii but keep the newer installments on the 360/PS3. Ports, even with reworked controls/sexy graphics are going to cost less (but give more financially) than ground-up titles as the engines, script and basic design are already in place. I've only played bits of the N64 version, but wasn't RE2 better rated than RE, RE3:N & RE:CV? It would be a nice prequel to their greatest title to date if you could go back and play as rookie cop Leon one last time.

So they're gonna mess it up with switching between fixed camera and RE4 style behind the shoulder camera? And to think I started to get excited about this...

I hope it's true, and that they do the great game justice!

IF it is true (and I hope it's not), I would have rather it be fully Resi 4 style, obviously. Even moreso, I just wish they stop porting things and actually make a new game. Something they haven't actually done themselves on Wii with Zack and Wiki.

What I'd love to see, is proper remakes of RE1-RE3, all using the over the shoulder view, with more emphasis on shooting and less on puzzles, just like RE4.

It would effectivly be a re-imagining of the first 3 games, and a brilliant way for gamers to get up to speed (UC was the blurb, this is like the novel :P).

I'd love to re-visit the games like this, and it would remove the archaic gameplay style which will no doubt scare of alot of gamers who haven't played RE before.

Resident Evil 2 is NOT a Gamecube classic! It's a PSX classic with ports for nearly every other system available in that era. The GC version probably amounts to a whopping 0.5% of the game's total sales.

Unless they're remaking it RE4 style, too bad. I loved the first three RE when they were hot, but after RE4 I tried playing RE Zero and REmake and they just seem so clumsy. All you do is backtrack to get the items you left in the stupid box. If I wanted a clumsy main character with a REAL horror atmosphere I would play Silent Hill ;-)

Okay, not to put down the resi series at all, but, i my self, have played it all the way strait back from ps1 till the end of the series when it hit resi 4, i also player all versions that i could have played, and well honestly, number 2 was the easiest and by far most uninteresting. I mean, the story line was only about 10 hours... we'll that is if you know how to play, and well i mean a remake might actually be a lot better, and save possible opinions, but idk, could be a good idea, or a waste of money.
