News: GameCube Remakes Also In Europe

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Oct 2nd 2008 09:18

Nintendo have confirmed to N-Europe that the new "Play On Wii" GameCube remake range will also be hitting Europe.

Good news for European fans who have yet to experience the many classic GameCube titles out there, as Nintendo have confirmed that their "Play On Wii" GameCube remake range of Wii titles will be also be heading to Europe.

"The GameCube conversions will be available across Europe too," a spokesperson told N-Europe this morning. "However, it's too early to announce or discuss specific details at this time."

Pikmin and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat will be the first Play On Wii titles out the gate, and should satisfy those who skipped the GameCube generation and don't want to have to hunt down second-hand controllers, memory cards and games in order to play them on the Wii.

Which classic GameCube titles would you like to see given the 'Wii-make" treatment? Post your thoughts in the comments below...

ah crap I did not expect that at all.

Seeing them doing this I can see an "iWii" round the corner like teh DSi with no GC disc support and the much wanted hard-drive, forcing all of us begging for a memory solution to buy a new Wii, damnit.

Speaking of which did they even touch on the memory issue at the conference?

Yup, the solution is SD cards I believe. :p

I've been quietly hoping for this move for a long time. :) A lot of good GameCube games never hit a larger audience.

Capcom realized this a while ago, and started re-releasing their three major GC Resident Evil games for the Wii, apparently with a lot of success.

And I'm with Sofree here, the first Metroid Prime certainly deserves this honor.

I wouldn't count on added modes. F-Zero GX would only be less accurate with WiiMote controls anyway.

Pikmin 2 is a must, obviously. I'd love to play Metroid Prime 1 & 2 with WiiMote controls (it made MP3 SO much better)

Chibi Robo, yes please. I don't want to have to fork out £50 to experience it on the GameCube... Crystal Chronicles with four DS's replacing the GBAs and cables would be awesome.

I don't think Metroid Prime 1 & 2 would work on teh Wii though?

Given the lack of a 2nd anologue stick, I can't see how they would map the "beam changing" controls? They could do it similar to the scanner changing in MP3 but that wouldn't be as quick as it was on the GC (think of that last boss battle in MP1), don't know if the d-pad could be used seeing as that was used for things like the missle launcher in MP3 so where else could that be mapped?

I'd like to see Pikmin 2, if only so that I can finally play it. I only have the original, not the sequel. TWW would also be a must. Although I think that should be a bonus that comes with the next Zelda. Kind of like OoT/MQ and TWW, though I think MQ version should have upgraded graphics (SSBB Toon Link-esque) and extra dungeons (those that were removed).

Leave the graphics alone, they're beautiful as they are!

Mokong> A possibility would be mapping beams or visors to nun-chuck jabs. Provided, of course, that these would function a fair share better than those in Okami.

So, are these Wii Makes with new controls, or just ports with the buttons re-mapped?

I never played either of the games announced, so this is good news for me.

Hopefully there are some 3rd party games available too, Twin Snakes anyone?

Killer 7 is the only one that would be truly worth it in my opinion, as it was pretty much a lightgun game without the lightgun before

Unless they give these games a serious overhaul in the controls and graphics department (all of them should support 60hz and 640p) I will label this as Nintendo money hogging their consumers.

Windwaker and Metroid Prime I hope. Those two seem pretty much definite which is good, I couldn't see it working with others/needing to at all really.
And I just bought Pikmin recently :p
Although extra content like online/better graphics/Master Quest-ised would be more than welcome!

All the FPS's - Metroid, Timesplitters series. Any others that can get dodgy framerates fixed would be good too (Metal Arms, etc).

And anything that can do with pointing, Pikmin's a great choice...

Oh sod it, how about just rereleasing EVERY cube game :)

I hope they release DK:Jungle Beat with a bongo controller again? Instead of fucking up the controls like they did with Barrel Blast. DK Jungle Beat for the gamecube was perfect, it would be a shame if they'd change the controls in something bad.
