News: Namco Pledges 2009 Release For Symphonia

Namco Bandai have responded to European pleas for Wii's first Tales game...

Despite releasing in Japan and the US last year to commercial success, there's still no firm release date for Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for dear old Europe. The Wii follow-up to Gamecube's most cherished RPG outsold the higher-budget, 360 title Tales of Vesperia in all other territories last year.

Now though, publisher Namco Bandai have begun to respond to multiple eager Europeans who want to get their mitts on Dawn of the New World and Vesperia via e-mail:

Thank you very much for your interest in our game. Tales of Vesperia (XBOX360) and Tales of Synphonia: Dawn of the New World (Wii) will be released in Europe in the 2nd half of 2009.

So there it is straight from the horse's mouth. No clear indication of a date as of yet, and we'll still wait for an official press release, but it's at least looking a little more hopeful for us Europeans.

Thanks to ghost_zero on the forums.

lets hope it is true. I can't wait to have ToS:DofNW in my hands. I've been waiting for it for years :)

The undub version of this game is already available, waiting for this version is now pointless.

See this is why the homebrew channel is really worth it. It cam raise an above average game to a good game just because the presentation standards have been increased (or to put this in a better way...RESTORED to the original standards)

Namco sorry but I am not buying. Some day you need to pay attention to language options like NIS (who also managed to mess it up with Ar Tonelico II)

Same, HBC ftw. I live in Australia, we only have one fricking language, English, there's no translation necessary yet we always get games way later then everyone else for no apparent reason.

If developers want to release games so late, it's up to them, but I sure as hell arn't going to wait that long, they want my money, they can start earning it.

Sorry guys, you've lost me here, how do you play this game through the HBC?

@Azmol01: Using an app for teh HBC called Gecko OS, it allows you to play US and/or Japan games on a PAL Wii and vice versa, all you need to do is import your game... i'm amazed with how easy it seems to be to region-unlock a Wii (well I say easy, for all I know the people who coded the app prolly had a hard time doing), why they are even region locked in the first place

Thanks dude, so I just import the game and download the HBC on to my Wii and away I go.

Oh BTW, how does one acquire the HBC?

Actually, if I had known that this gen it would be more or less the same as last gen, I probably would have imported the Wii (and maybe other consoles too) anyway. Because games mostly come out earlier in the US and some won't even make it to us. Importing a Japanese Wii wouldn't have done, as I don't understand Japanese.

Regarding the news: I found those mails on another forum. Though those mails are probably genuine, there is still always the possibility that Namco changes its opinion regarding this again (wouldn't be the first time something like this happens) - especially as for Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World there haven't been any complete official announcement (press release).

Anyway: For Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World they are way too late for me anyway, I imported it and played it through Gecko OS.

@Azmol01:
Regarding HBC look here:

Regarding Homebrew in general take a look here:
http://wiibrew.org
There they also have a software that let you update the shop channel without updating the whole firmware too.

For Gecko OS take a look here:
http://www.usbgecko.com/

From what I know Gecko OS 2.0 is currently in the work and probably should be available soon too but v1.7b works just fine for region free play too (though the so called Rebooter option doesn't work on v3.4 anymore but it isn't required for region free gaming).
