News: Red Steel 2 First Look In Next NGamer

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Feb 24th 2009 22:00

British publication NGamer are set to feature a first look at Red Steel 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to the slashy/shooty Wii launch title.

Red Steel 2 is an elusive beast; Ubisoft haven't confirmed much beyond its existence, and the fact that it's set to support the waggle-enhancing MotionPlus accessory. Beyond that, gamers are completely in the dark.

However, it looks as though Red Steel 2 is in a presentable state right now, as the "Next Month" page in Issue #34 of British Nintendo magazine NGamer promises to feature a first look at Red Steel 2 and "MotionPlus swordsmanship" in the May 2009 issue, which will hit news stands on Wednesday March 25th.

Ubisoft have slated Red Steel 2 for a Q4 2009 release, which gives you plenty of time to catch on the highly-anticipated sequel's flawed yet admirable predecessor.

I still think RS gets a lot of crap it doesn't deserve, so looking forward to it.

Red Steel does get a lot of stick but it did have a lot of good ideas behind it. It's just a shame that some of them were poorly put together.

Also Ubisoft were a different company back then when the Wii first came out and their output was less family/casual friendly so I'm not sure how Red Steel 2 is going to shape up. I don't want to see 'Imagine Red Steel' or 'My Red Steel' or any new Ubisoft ideas come out for this one.

I'd still like to see a sequel but I'd also like Ubisoft to realise that there are some left handed players out there so please include some kind of left handed mode in RS2. The company could do a lot worse than check out some of the reviews the last game had, see what works and what does not and move on from there.

This is make it or break it for Ubisoft. Their last chance to win back my respect.

I agree, RS1 did get a lot of undeserved smacking. But I guess it was very overhyped.

Question: Do you think there's a chance the MotionPlus will be included with the game?

Red Steel 1 deserved all the negativity it got.

Also the first one sold over a million units but all we got from Ubishit was all the family/casual/baby crap.

Even if this sells just as well or better, don't expect stuff to change.

Don't confuse the dutch NGamer (from HUB uitgeverij) with the english one, which is a different magazine.

I have to say I agree with Hellfire. I definitely liked Red Steel. Although it felt a bit like an FPS in it's infancy, it had it's good points. Based on how the first game played, how it looked, how the story developed and the music (which I loved), I think Red Steel 2 has a huge amount of potential.

I really enjoyed Red Steel, yeah there where some problems with it but nothing that stopped me playing it right to the end. I think they have had time to take in the feedback from players and with Wiimotion plus they should be able to produce a far more engaging experiance.

Should be interesting, the first game was pretty good. I shall be interested in seeing what can be done with motion-plus, if they are included.

I am more excited than I thought I'd be to see the state of Red Steel 2. A lot of the design for the first game was very thorough and atmospheric, so I'm counting on the sequel, with the technical aspect coming together, to be all it can be. :)
