News: Resi 5 On Wii?

Posted by Mark Lee - May 22nd 2009 12:54

Capcom consider more Wii ports...

When Capcom added IR functionality and waggle to Resident Evil 4 we were as shocked as anyone by the freshness of the title and judging by sales figures of over 1 million, we weren't alone in our thoughts. It was a shame then that we had to revert to a whole new console and an altogether inferior control setup to play Resident Evil 5. Just for shinier graphics. *Grumble*

We can dream, right?

Having said nothing when Capcom told us that even the title screen of Resident Evil 5 wasn't possible on Wii, we are now grinning like Cheshire cats at the following news...

When asked about the possiblity of a Wii version of Resident Evil 5, Capcom's Chief Financial Officer Kazuhiko Abe replied:

"We have not decided whether we are doing it or not doing it...up until now, after releasing our PS3 and Xbox 360 games, we have brought them to Wii. Basically, this is the approach we are considering taking."

OK, so it's hardly confirmation that the title will come to Wii but when a company doesn't give a big fat 'NO' and starts talking about existing ports, we're inclined to think that this is one small step for Wiikind and one giant leap for Capcom.

Would you embrace Resi 5 or shun the African setting? Feeeeed us your comments below!

After seeing people playing it, I actually don't care about the possible port. It will be just another blockbuster action title poorly ported that loses its only interesting feature: graphics. It has none of the atmosphere of previous entries. I want Heavy Rain on the Wii.

I finished the Xbox version and despite my initial reservations i actually really enjoyed the experiance. If they could somehow enable the online co-op aspect of the game onto the wii along with new controls then id be up for buying it, otherwise i dont see how it could possibly hold any appeal.

From what I've read from reviews, the co-op has ruined any fear that the title would cause, basically because your counterpart is always able to help you.
Get rid of the co-op and give us some pointer-action awsomeness! Screw multiplayer!

If the controls are spot on like RE4: Wii Edition was it would be awesome... and save me the trouble (and expense) of buying a 360

Don't know what they could do graphics wise but if they could somehow rebuild it using the RE4 engine and update it a bit then it should still be awesome

Having finished RE5 on Veteran I can say it wouldn't be anything spectacular on the Wii. Well, I mean considering the overall quality of 3rd party Wii titles it would be *something* but it wasn't nearly as good as RE4. By porting over to the Wii you're taking away the only thing that was great to beging with, the graphics. For a solo player looking for a horror/survival game, RE5 felt like a chore a lot of the time..

Even when using the RE 4 engine, they still make the games looks crap. RE 4 is showing its age and Dead Rising was pants..

They'll need to give it a good polish before working on this

Not even the title screen? Methinks Crapcom got a whiff of the money.

Resident Evil 5? nah they're better off making a new game altogether using the RE4 engine, RE5 is fine where it is, great game.

Bah, I might not even buy it. From what I hear, it's a retread gameplay-wise, and seeing as I don't care for the characters at all, I would care even less for this game if they had to scale back the graphics to run on the Wii.

Capcom have given some different messages about this but I really, really don't think this game will come out on the Wii (pre or post E3). Capcom have a view of the console and don't feel that this type of game would appeal to Wii owners despite RE4 Wii edition.

The company is happy to port over Gamecube Resident Evil titles (which already work on the Wii) and to produce another light gun Res title.

Of course porting the game over is possible but just look at the very average conversion/port over of Dead Rising CTUD. After playing that game I went out and bought a PS3.

Also Masachika Kawata, the producer of Resident Evil 5 and the person behind bringing RE4 over to the Wii feels that the RE5 title screen couldn't even be done on the Wii. I think that speaks for itself.

When Capcom first released RE4 it was only for the Gamecube but due to shareholder pressure and PS2 fans complaining, the game was later came out on that system and then PC and mobile/cell phone as well. It's possible that this type of pressure could make Capcom think again but to keep Wii fans onside for the moment Capcom won't be saying an offical no to RE5 for the Wii.

This could be a hint to Street Fighter 4 Wii as well ;)

Not gonna boycott it or anything. If it turns out reasonably well and it plays well I will purchase ~ the same for any game.

This game was trash next to Resident Evil 4. Resources should not be wasted porting over an inferior game in the RE/Biohazard series. New project would be much more ideal like Ghosts n Goblins Wii or Breath of Fire Wii...

If they could get Resi4 to run on a PS2, i'm sure they could do Resi5 on Wii.

But if they announced Maximo 3 instead, i'd be jumping around screaming woohoo like Daffy Duck.

@Mr_bogus> The difference between PS2 and Gamecube wasn't so big last generation but there is a bigger gap between the Wii and PS3/360.

Having said that RE4 did come out on mobile/cell phone. I've not played that version however.

I just hope that the team behind 'Dead Rising CTUD' isn't behind any possible RE5 version if it ever comes out.

Why are well still talking about a game that would be at least a year off in the making if Capcom ever did decide to make it for the Wii when we have Project Zero/Fatal Frame IV already made that could come out in Europe/North America soon?
