E3 2009: New DSi & Wii Colour

Posted by Stephen Thomson - Jun 4th 2009 11:51

Nintendo is set to launch some new colours in Japan later this year. Screens inside!

Nintendo of Japan's site has had a little update this week, during the biggest game event of the year. Nintendo has now unveiled a new colour for both the Wii and DSi.

The DSi will be coloured red for it's release on July 11th, which isn't surprising given the various colours that are already available for the DSlite. But perhaps slightly more surprising is the launch of the Wii's first new colour, scheduled to get released on the same day as the highly acclaimed Monster Hunter 3. The black coloured Nintendo Wii will be released on August 1st, and Capcom is taking full advantage of this.

Capcom will now be releasing a black controller pack for Monster Hunter 3 along with the white colour, which includes a classic controller and it's shell. And to take advantage of this new colour, Capcom will be releasing a new bundle consisting of the black Wii, Monster Hunter 3 and the classic controller and the shell. Unfortunately, no word has been mentioned whether either of these colours will make it out of Japan.

Will this help boost the Wii sales in Japan, as well as Monster Hunter 3? Post your opinions below.

It was a really clever decision. Having a Black Wii released by the day MH3, not to mention a bundle, it just will work out perfectly.

I want that, almost enough to make me want to sell my white wii, it would sit perfectly alongside my black DSi.
Sadly I'm a poor student, but wouldn't it be nice.

This is exactly what Nintendo need to start reversing the plateauing Wii figures, especially in Japan. Not unexpected, but a welcome move none the same.

This is exactly what I suggested Nintendo to do with Super Mario Galaxy. They should release this in the US and PAL regions bundled with Super Mario Galaxy 2. Blue neon light, fits Galaxy very well...

Agree with Solitanze above me
The black Wii is cool but not cool enough to sell my old one.

I shall import a black Remote//Nunchuk/Classic Controller Pro :D

Can't be getting a black Wii because I can't be chucking away hundreds of pounds worth of VC/WiiWare games.

Finally the black Wii!
I would buy that one if it were an available colour at launch.

At last, been holding off buying new Wiimotes/Nunchucks waiting for this.

If I import a black Wiimote and Nunchuck from Japan, will it work with my European Wii?

@Mokong: No, sadly it won't work with your European Wii. Nintendo consoles are region-locked.

And about the colour, meh, I think I like white just fine. But I would like some different coloured wiimotes. Like red or green!

Hey it's the Nintendo Revolution!

I've been waiting to buy a DSi for a while... waiting for new colours to make the old ones cheaper (and if not then just new colours).

@TheCursedFrog: Wii Accessories are not region locked so a Wiimote and Nunchuk from Japan should work fine with European Wii.

I'm happy with the Wii in white that I've got.

This is the same old thing that happened last generation with the Gamecube, Japan got a lot of different colours but Europe and elsewhere didn't get that many.

I'd love to have one simply cos all my gear, including my TV are black. Well, except for my DVD cinema system as that's silver but that will need to be upgraded in the future anyway.

And yes, my DS Lite is also black so they'd go well together. Hopefully I can get one in the future and Nintendo won't make it a hassle having two accounts on two Wiis or transferring the account across (kinda like the license thing with 360s). Moving the games won't be hard now so if Nintendo let you transfer your profile over, it'll be great

@TheCursedFrog: A friend of mine sent a Wii Remote over from Canada (I'm in the UK), and it works fine. :)
