News: Red Steel 2 Delayed To 2010

Ubisoft announces its fantasy-western swordfighter slips to next year...

Sad news for those wanting some more MotionPlus swordplay before Christmas. Ubisoft have announced in their latest sales reports that Red Steel 2 will be delayed until the last quarter of their current fiscal year. In the human time spectrum, that means a release between January and March of 2010.

Red Steel 2 has been touted quite a bit since E3, with its slick swordfighting mechanics and cel-shaded style winning near-universal praise with critics. It was originally announced for a late 2009 release.

How affected by the delay are you? Glad to see a slightly clearer Christmas shopping list or sad to see a frustratingly bustling 2010 already? Let us know your thoughts below...

My guess is there's no reason to delay it, they're just pulling the same crap that Warner Bros. did with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Right, because lord knows, they wouldn't want to take advantage of holiday sales.

I guess they spending sometime trying to create another faux trailer for Beyond Good and Evil.

I hope Ubisoft spends sometime on this game unlike there other shovelware stuff.

yeah Tellyn, that's not very good reasoning :P The holiday season would be the best for them, if they're delaying it it's because they need it and like Miyamoto said " A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

Can only be a good thing, really. I thought the first one was pants, but have a bit of faith in this. Hopefully they'll use the extra few months to tweak and get it just right.

Glad of this delay, hopefully the time will be used wisely to make the game the best it can be.

i wonder if nintendo have anything to do with this. i've been swordfighting in wiisports and noticed that if i swing the wiimote around like a crazy person, it very quickly needs resetting, which is a pain.

my guess is that nintendo are working on an update that fixes this and it will be tagged to the gamedisc......

I reckon that like Bioshock 2, Ubisoft have gone there is too much coming out at christmas so we'll delay it till its a quiet month and then release it so that we can actually sell some copies verses having the chance to sell it at christmas when there are 50 odd must buy titles over different systems and have to fight to sell it..... And as a extra who in their right mind truely wants to go up against New Super Mario Bros. Wii by being on the same system releasing at about the same time..... In my mind this is a good business decision.

Eh, I'm positive this game could use the extra time.

Still, with the announcement of a sequel being in the works arriving shortly after the release of the first game, that'd mean that this thing has been brewing for three full years by the time it arrives.

Ubisoft says they delayed the games to ensure quality:

"they're just pulling the same crap that Warner Bros. did with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

You mean there's going to be a Red Steel 2 film and they're now postponing the game so that the game releases alongside said film?

Hopefully this means it will be a refined, quality, experience.

To ensure quality you say? I'm cool with that.

Atiiq, there's nothing coming out this Xmas. Everything's been delayed on other formats due to that pile of shite brand that is CoD.

I do agree that maybe New Super Mario Bros will be a tough one to beat on the Wii but if they're going with that attitude, then don't ever release a game, ever. I reckon Red Steel 2 would sell better at Xmas than in the early months of the new year. Maybe if they delayed it till Easter they may get better sales but Xmas is peak time and its not like there's an abundance of Wii games coming out this Xmas. Ones that matter that is...

It's been delayed due to also possibly being ported onto PS3 utilising their motion sensing controller as well...

Are you, Solitanze, in fact, the most pessimistic person in the known universe?

The reason the last one wasnt quite as good as it was meant to be was due to it being rushed. I welcome the wait if it helps improve the game.

My guess is that Ubisoft are pooling their resources together for the big Xmas/Holiday hit Assassins Creed 2.

It's not just Red Steel 2 that has been delayed either as some other Ubisoft titles have been pushed over to 2010 as well like the new Splinter Cell game.

"It's been delayed due to also possibly being ported onto PS3 utilising their motion sensing controller as well..."

Developers havnt got their hands on that sensor yet.
What Sony showed at E3 was themselves only a prototype.
Id be surprised if anything as ridiculous as a glowing ball that changes colour makes it into the final design.

Wouldn't be surprised if it does -eventually- go to the PS3 though.

Both Microsoft's and Sony's new motion control schemes are at least a year off from coming out and I really don't see this game coming out for them anytime soon.

If Ubisoft want to spend more time improving the game that's fine, there's enough good quality games coming out before the end of the year anyway.
