Media: Ju-On: The Grudge 'Fright Simulator' Boxart

Posted by Nathan Whincup - Sep 3rd 2009 11:58

Brace yourselves for the most terrifying boxart ever to hit our hallowed shores...

Whilst we've been looking forward to having the pants scared off of us when Ju-On: The Grudge hits the Wii in Europe next month courtesy of Rising Star Games, we've also been terrified at the very thought of something else entirely.

The thought that the PAL boxart for the game might well be worse than the "Haunted House Simulator" boxart we saw for the US release of the game. Rising Star have sent over the final European boxart for the game, and... we'll let you be the judge.

This lady is a fraud, she's not even holding a Wii Remote! Perhaps she's watching a retro episode of Doctor Who?

Yesterday, we got the chance to go hands-on with the game at Rising Star's darkened offices in London. Expect our impressions later on today.

Wow and here I thought boxart couldn't manage to get any more lame and off-putting.. well done RS.

Also 'A fright simulator'? really guys? Can you honestly say anyone who doesn't know the game and looks at that cover could possibly take it seriously?

Also, rising star seem to have a thing for crap boxart don't they? Just look at how lifeless the No More Heroes PAL box is compared to the lovely artwork of the US one. I bet they'll cock up Muramasa too.

Well, it's definitely... unique?

Ugh, who am I kidding, that's awful.

@Reynard

We still love them for bringing so much Japanese goodness our way.

True, they licensed Fragile after all, so I forgive them. I'm not going to be picking this one up anyway, but if I was, I'd probably hide the box away in the back of some drawer or cupboard.

Nathan: Yeah that's definitely true, but i'm still giving them a wrap on the knuckles for the covers. :p

Rising Star you get a D- for effort! Now go and sit in that corner and think about what you have done....oh and please don't let the censors touch NMH2 this time, thank you very much.

As craptacular as that boxart is, there's no doubt in my mind that it will help sell the game to the "expanded audience". *shiver*
If Rising Star wanted to be really cool though, they'd include the original creepy one on the reverse of the cover, minus the fright simulator part.
