The BBC has announced that from November 18th, Wii owners residing in the UK will be able to download a dedicated channel for its television catch-up service iPlayer.

The iPlayer was previously available to Wii owners via the Internet Channel, but its service has been compromised with recent firmware updates. The specific channel will downloadable for free from the Shop Channel later next week.

Update 18/11/09: The Channel is now available to download from the Wii Shop Channel for free to all users with their Wii console's region set to the United Kingdom! How is it working for you? Let us know!

i missed half a series of shooting stars because of that damned firmware update that promised "improved media playback"!!!

i'll probably get it, but only if i can't access it through the internet channel. haven't got any space left on the wii.

Brillent.
Good on the BBC.
Probably wont work outside the UK, but I approve a lot.
A downloadable channel should be able to work far better then the internet channel, as it has the full system ram to work with. (Rather then system ram -webbrowser -webpage)

"haven't got any space left on the wii."

Delete stuff then.
Or put it on an SD Card.
Honestly ask yourself how many of the games or what-not you got you are actually going to play in the next 6 months.

Not bad, not bad... i guess.
Only problem? Don't think i'm entirely interested in any BBC programs. I could to with some anime or something...

I prob will check it out but i predict my mother will use it and reduce even more o' me ol' gamin' time Lol.

"Honestly ask yourself how many of the games or what-not you got you are actually going to play in the next 6 months."

i could, but there are multiplayer vc games that see quite a bit of use most weekends. there are wiiware games that my wife is halfway through, that she doesn't often play, but would slaughter me if they were removed.

i'd be just as happy to access iplayer with slightly less quality via the internet channel.

@AuntNadia

Whack all your vc and wiiware games onto an SD card and leave the main Wii desktop to the dedicated channels.

That's what i've done and it suits my OCD just fine :D

then slap the wife, put her in her place and tell her to 'know her limits'.

...OR buy a new SD card and write 'MINE' on it so she gets the gist.
