News: Sega Brings HVS Fighting Game To Wii

High Voltage Software strikes a deal with Sega to bring Tournament of Legends to Wii this year...

Sega today announced that its partnership with developer High Voltage Software is set to continue, as the publisher plans to release the team's next game in May.

Tournament of Legends appears to be the current form of what was originally unveiled last year as Gladiator A.D..

Head over to the gallery for a couple more screens.

Tournament of Legends is a one-on-one, 3D beat 'em up with a heavy emphasis on weapons and magic. Whereas Gladiator A.D. was revealed as a simple human-on-human fighter, the game now lets players brawl as a host of mythical icons, including the Minotaur, Stone Golems and Valkyries.

Oddly enough, Sega's press statement fails to mention any support for Wii MotionPlus, suggesting High Voltage has dropped the support of the peripheral it announced for Gladiator last year. Rather, the game has been confirmed to support the Classic Controller as well as the Wii Remote and Nunchuck set-up.

Tournament of Legends will indeed utilise High Voltage Software's proprietary Quantum3 engine used for The Conduit. With this being High Voltage's second major retail Wii title published by Sega, hopefully the online co-op FPS The Grinder is a little more secure for release.

Tournament of Legends is set to release in North America on May 18th.

Let's hope it's better than The Conduit.

May 18th? That ain't too far away and yet there's been now hype or coverage for this game at all. I know The Conduit was over - hyped, but there is also such a thing as under - hyped you know.

This post made me feel really good at first, and then, on a second thought.. This isn't going to sell good. Just like every goddamn 3rd party game on the whole fucking console(except RE). It justs pisses me off so much.

On the other hand, this sounds amazing! Last year it just seemed kind of dull, but now i'm hooked!

"Tournament of Legends" sounds a bit....well 'shovelware'....which means it probably will sell.

Look, hellfire. I mau have put a little bit on the edge, 'cause there are a few 3rd party games that sell good. But fantastic games like Dead Space: Extraction, MadWorld, Little Kings Story and Muramasa sold crap compared to 3rd party games on the other consoles! The moral is, to the people: buy more 3rd party games for the Wii. And to the developers: ad-ver-tising!

Dead Space, MadWorld may have flopped as did unfortunately Little King's Story (apart from here in Europe according to a Marvelous dev) but Muramasa was a success despite it being ultra niche and GAME as well as other retailers refusing to stock it.

Not bothered about no MotionPlus, it never really took off anyway.

Still looking forward to seeing this game, think i'm more excited for The Grinder tho :)

Waste of time this game is. Will struggle to sell 50k. Far too niche. HVS should SOLELY focus on The Grinder. Need to compensate big time after Conduit failed all round with quality and sales performance.

I know you are a little slow, Sol, but don't purposefully try to sound like an idiot.

More than 150 people work at HVS, if they were all to work on one game, that's not coming out for a long time, they'd soon be out of commission.

And you'll see this sell considerably more than 50k.

My only gripe is that as far as roman/greek mythological fighters go, I think Wrath of the Gladiator has this game one-upped in the comedy and sheer arcade fun departments.

The Conduit probably wouldn't have failed if it was good. It was hyped and then turned out (apparently) pretty pants - so everyone automatically avoided it. Plus no-one every advertises... -_-

It's hilarious that people keep calling Conduit a failure. It's made money, and got decent reviews. That's a bonafide success right there.

That it's not up to par with the cream of the crop is an entirely different matter.

I greatly amused by people criticising a game they haven't even played!
Try playing a game before laying into it!
For the record, The Conduit is a very impressive and playable game, in my opinion.
And yes, I have played it.
