Sega officially reveals Project Needlemouse, and it's heading to the Wii!
After waiting a while for details on the upcoming Sonic game dubbed 'Project Needlemouse', Sega finally reveals the game to be Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, which will be downloadable to all 3 home consoles later this summer.
Also what's note worthy is the 'Episode 1' at the end of the title, and in an interview with GameSpot, Sega's Ken Balough revealed that there will be a continuation to the story, much like the story from Sonic 3 continued to Sonic and Knuckles and that players leaving Episode 1 will be "very excited" for Episode 2. This title takes place after the events of Sonic and Knuckles with Sonic going on a new adventure.
Keeping to the roots of the Sega Genesis Sonic titles, Sonic will have his Spin Dash and Power Sneakers, with his homing attack getting included in the game. Leaderboards are also included in the title, so you can compete for the fastest level clear times. As for the music, Ken said to "expect to hear very familiar tempos and styles of music that resonates with 16-bit games but also has a modern appeal."
The gameplay will be 2D like the previous Sega Genisis titles but with lush 3D visuals to give it a modern edge and some segments of the game will make use the Wii Remote for motion control.
Be sure to stay with N-Europe for more news on the title in the upcoming days!

Finally! All it took was for Capcom to do it first? Regardless, im glad to see a proper 2d sonic game again, i loved the GBA and DS games but they still fell short of the original Megadrive games. Im expecting big things, i think im calling this for everyone when i say if this game dosent work out well Sonic may as well be dead.

Its good its episodic. Means we can try without much risk.
Still, I'm worried it might be too similar. I want more 2D sonic, but it doesn't have to be purely retro-appeal. I liked the Rush games and would be more happy for them to be in charge here.
(especially their music)

how much will each episode cost? and how much content will we get for the (probably) over-inflated price.....
last chance for sega in many gamers opinions. i won't be buying episode 2 if this stinks as bad as most sega offerings.

I know games look great on Wii, but SEGA saying it'll be 480p on WiiWare and 1080p on the others makes it sound crap. =/
Still can't wait until July. Definite download for me.

ZOMG Has Sega finally understood what the fan base was waiting for? A true return to a platformer? FINALLY. I have been waiting for a old school or Rush/Advance style Sonic game for ages.
Good move, Sega. Good move.

Thats because high numbers always sound cool :P
Seriously though, if thats the only difference its fine by me.
Wasn't Sonic 1 just 240p anyway? Doesn't take much resolution for a game to be enjoyable.

This really really is a victory for all Sonic fans who have stated they want a new 2D Sonic in the same mould as the Megadrive versions.
SEGA, do not mess this up!

This is rather emotional. Sonic is what got me into gaming... Very happy at Sega decision. Dont know why it too them so long to 'go figure' but yay, they came around.

Episodic? So now they're taking a page out of Capcom's playbook, and then totally outdoing them. Bravo, SEGA.
You might have had times when you were fickle businessmen, but that time is apparently over.

This is awesome news! They haven't said any about knucles and talis. They have erase many name from the rooster of characthers but t ails and knuckles weren't even erasable since they weren't there. I aspect to see them in this new one (maybe playable). Looking forward for it.

the programmers are as much to blame most of the time. it's hard to get quality programmers that don't want to show off their modelling and animation skills etc, which is all about 3d, unfortunately. and what looks better on your cv?
