"Second Quarter of 2007"

Nintendo of America Boss Reggie Fils-Aime, today revealed when gamers can expect to play their games online with the Nintendo Wii.

Speaking with SpikeTV's Game Head show, he said: "The multiplayer is coming. During the Japanese launch, there is Pokémon Battle Revolution, and that's really the first one. There will be titles that we'll be announcing in first quarter 2007, that'll be multiplayer-enabled. So during second quarter 2007, people will be able to have a multiplayer experience on Wii.

Excellent stuff. Reggie was then able to reveal that Nintendo are hard at work at creating more Wii Channels.

In further good news for Wii fans, Fils-Aime revealed that Nintendo was hard at work developing more Wii channels, though revealed nothing about what they would involve.

It's good to see that Nintendo are taking online seriously, this time. Let's just hope that the hard work pays off.

Always good sign. Let's hope they don't downplay it like the GCN; though I'm sure they aren't that stupid.

I hope this is for the UK as well. But the second quarter does sound like a Super Smash Bros Brawl release to me. I hope so.

The key there is when he says that Nintendo will be announcing new wifi enabled titles early next year. I wonder what these games will be.

Probably a few Mario titles, including Mario Kart. I don't care much about those, all I want is to kick your asses in an online Smash Brothers tournament.

Hopefully both Mario Kart and Smash Bros will be online enabled, especially as I don't have any regular Nintendo gaming buddies locally any more (sniff).

Good news I suppose but I still don't see why they couldn't have had online play at launch. They must have known for years they were going to have it, why does it take so long to plan?

Mario Strikers & Battalion Wars were using WiiConnect24 right?

Yeah we have to remember the diff between being "WiiConnect24 compatible" and actually having an online versus mode.
Downloading a new character is hardly as good as being able to play against your friends is it now?

Oh, also PS: ExiteTruck should have been online at launch for the western audience.
Would have been a perfect tester for things to come, even if it was only 2-player online.
Pathetic that it isn't. And not even 4-player??! Christ.

A little late if you ask me. However im giving Nintendo time to perfect it and do it right. Dont let us down, we need an online service to be respected.
