Fire Emblem: Awakening

Fire Emblem enters UK charts at number 3, 3DS sales soar 49%

Fire Emblem has entered the UK All-Format Charts at number 3 making it Nintendo's highest new entry this year.

Indeed, the 3DS has been doing a great job of breaking its way into the mainstream UK market lately thanks to titles such as Monster Hunter and Luigi's Mansion 2 but surprisingly, it's Fire Emblem: Awakening that has truly elevated the handheld.

Fire Emblem, often considered a lesser known franchise even within the Nintendo universe, enjoys the 10th anniversary of its international debut this year, as before the seventh title Blazing Sword, no games in the series were released outside of Japan.

So this is quite an achievement for the series, especially considering Fire Emblem was initially introduced to the West thanks to the inclusion (and popularity) of characters from the franchise in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Meanwhile, Luigi has slipped into 8th place after his firm grasp on the 5th position for many weeks.

All-formats chart

1. Injustice: Gods Among Us

2. Bioshock Infinite

3. Fire Emblem: Awakening

4. Tomb Raider

5. Defiance

6. FIFA 13

7. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2

8. Luigi's Mansion 2

9. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14

10. Far Cry 3

This week wasn't all about impressive software sales though, as 3DS hardware sales also enjoyed a mighty boost thanks to the release of Fire Emblem: Awakening and the special bundle. 3DS sales jumped by 49% this week with the special edition Fire Emblem 3DS XL accounting for 31% of the sales.
