Latest 3DS update blocks "95% of flash cards"

The latest 3DS update is set to put a stop to most flash cards and will see pirates the world over shed a tear. But this is great news as developers will also be shedding tears, tears of joy.

For years now, flash cards have caused mayhem on the DS landscape. Piracy became so bad that many believe that is one of the main factors as to how DS software saw such a sudden demise.

Whilst it may be a bit late now, it seems that Nintendo have finally released an update that hackers will find hard to over-come. Nintendo-Gamer spoke recently to the makers of SuperCard, one of the more popular flash cards, who stated that 95% of the cards in the world have now been blocked.

"The 3DS system has been updated to 4.4.0-10x. Official information indicates improved security. We researched immediately and found out that the 3DS system update detects save IC on the PCB. On the current market, most cards are without save IC, so are blocked now. This is a hardware defect, software can not solve it. So 95% of the cards in the world have been blocked."

This is great news for Nintendo, developers and publishers. Whilst this may be a bit too late now to save the original DS, this hopefully gives an indication as to how well Nintendo will protect the 3DS and Wii U.
