News: 215,000 3DS Units Sold in Japan

According to Enterbrain 3DS sales for the week of the price cut were up considerably.

After a strong launch back in March sales of the Nintendo 3DS have continued to dip and other than the occasional rise for certain games, such as Star Fox 64 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, sales of the console have remained consistently lower than anticipated. Nintendo issued a 40% price drop in Japan recently, which went into effect last week, and has caused a sales surge for the console.

As you can see from the chart above (courtesy of Famitsu) sales of the Nintendo 3DS rose considerably and the console had it's second highest sales week since its release, with the highest being the week of release itself. According to Enterbain the console sold 214,821 units, a huge increase on the 4,132 units it sold the previous week although presumably a lot of people were holding off.

The week covered by Enterbrain is between August 8th and 14th and with the price drop taking place on the 11th a lot of these sales would have come from the weekend. Hopefully the 3DS can continue this upward momentum and justify Nintendo's price drop.
