News: 3DS NES Games Will Offer Multiplayer

The NES games available on the 3DS will offer simultaneous multiplayer in the future.

When Nintendo announced the 3DS price cut yesterday they also announced an 'Ambassador' scheme that served to thank loyal customers for purchasing the 3DS at the original price. The scheme will allow for anyone who uses the 3DS eShop before August 12th to download ten NES games and ten GBA games for free at some point in the future. While a few games were announced, including Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Mario Kart: Super Circuit, details on the whole have been thin on the ground.

IGN contacted Nintendo of America to look for more details but unfortunately Nintendo were not very forthcoming. When asked if there would be more than 20 games to chose from Nintendo said details will be available in the future and they also refused to answer if the scheme had an end date and if more GBA titles would be added after the offer.

However, one thing they did confirm was that in the future NES games on the eShop would support multiplayer simultaneous play. It would appear that when the scheme first goes live the games will be as they were when released on the NES but when they become available to the public, whenever that is, ambassadors would be able to download the updates for free. Clarifying exactly how the NES titles would be updated Nintendo said the following:

"These will be 2D games. They are not 3D Classics. When the NES games become available to the general public later this year, they will include additional features such as multiplayer simultaneous play. Ambassadors will then be able to download those updated version at no cost."

Nintendo also confirmed that the original DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL would not be reduced in price. It seems we'll have to wait for more details about the Ambassador programme for now but be sure to let us know what games you'd like in the comments section below.
