News: 3DS Passes 4m Mark in Japan

Mario's two big blockbusters also pass a million each...

Data from (via NeoGAF) has confirmed that 3DS passed the four million sold mark over Christmas - well early of Nintendo's official expectations. The number of 3DS units sold as of Christmas Day is put at 4,135,739.

That would mean that, as Famitsu's have it, the system sold 510,629 units during the week ending December 25th. We'll see whether the Media Create figures differ dramatically on Thursday. The data also means that, with the month's official reach stretching between November 28th and December 25th, 3DS enjoyed the biggest December ever for a console, hitting almost one and a half million.

It was good news for software too, with Famitsu also confirming that both Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land passed the million mark in the nation. They have sold 1,082,391 and 1,042,511, respectively.

The Media Create data should come through as per usual on Wednesday, so stay tuned for those figures.
