News: 3DS Tops Japanese Charts in October

Japanese gamers are picking up the Nintendo 3DS but many are not purchasing games to go alongside it.

According to a new report from Enterbrain there has been a marked increase in purchases of the Nintendo 3DS since the price cut in Japan, but the same can't be said of software sales.

Weekly data has shown that the Nintendo 3DS has been doing well since the August price cut, often topping the hardware charts. However, Enterbrain also report that 304,000 Nintendo 3DS units were sold in October, making it the top selling console of the month.

Software sales have been less successful however, as just 122,000 units were sold in October. This means that 60% of people who have purchased a Nintendo 3DS have not picked up any software for it, leading to speculation that people are picking it up to play DS games for now until the bigger titles are released later in the year. We'll have to wait and see if the release of titles such as Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and Monster Hunter 3G make an impact on this balance.
