News: Donkey Konga Confirmed!

Nintendo have confirmed that Donkey Konga- the much rumoured music-based title featuring Donkey Kong- is in development.

Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Of Japan, announced today that the rumours are correct, Donkey Konga will be landing on GameCube. A few days ago, we reported that Donkey Konga- a musical title based on the world of Donkey Kong- was rumoured to be in production; rumours which turned out to be true. The title features Donkey Kong in a starring role, and the player will use a Conga Drum peripheral to operate the game. The title is in the vein of Samba De Amigo- a music title developed by Sega for the Dreamcast which sees the player using Maracas to participate in the game. Shigeru Miyamoto- who created Donkey Kong- is a big fan of the Sega game; a game which is blatantly the inspiration for Donkey Konga.

Surprisingly Namco will be behind the title, however they are an excellent choice for creating this game- the company has experience with drum-based titles. The game is due to hit Japanese shelves during the Christmas period meaning the title should hit Europe sometime in 2004.
