News: Dragon Quest IX Trademarked For Europe

Good news for Europeans, as Square-Enix trademarks smash-hit RPG Dragon Quest IX for the region...

Despite monopolising Japan with every released entry, the Dragon Quest series has arguably only gained substantial popularity in the west very recently. It seems publisher Square Enix hopes to expand the series' success, as a European release looks pretty much confirmed.

The English name for the DS RPG seems to be Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. The title has also been trademarked in several other European languages, confirming a full release across the continent.

Dragon Quest IX easily became the best selling game of the year in Japan when it released. Nintendo themselves have expressed plans to collaborate in the marketing of the game (and the upcoming Dragon Quest X on Wii) in western territories.

No firm release date has been announced for the game, but expect it to hit stores some time next year.
