News: Match Point

Two ordinary members of the public are preparing to run a Wii Tennis tournament in Brooklyn.

If you look up other words for 'phenomenon' in a thesaurus, you'll find that they've actually added the word 'Wii' to the list now. The multi-million pound advertising campaign and the new objective to get everyone playing games again has only done Nintendo favours, and it seems like they are now back on top, after years of being in the shadow of Sony. Not even the broken wrist straps incident has been able to take away the good publicity, and the Wii is being used and enjoyed by everyone from the elderly to wounded army soldiers.

The success continues with the opening of Wiimbledon, a Wii Tennis tournament in Brooklyn, USA created by Steve Bryant and Lane Buschel. The non-profit project is reliant on volunteer sponsors and designers to help out with the tournament and with the prizes, as Nintendo are in no way involved in the creation of this event. That's the power of the Nintendo fans for you. Sign ups for the tournament have been delayed for a few days due to an overwhelming reaction, but American residents will be able to register for the tourney on the 18th June at noon (presumably in the US timezone).

The tournament will be kicking off on the 23rd of June from 12PM-5PM at Barcade in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, USA. Stay tuned to N-Europe for more on Wiimbledon.
