News: New TMNT: Smash Up Details

The lastest issue of NGamer reveals some juicy titbits on the upcoming turtle-tastic fighter.

Announced last month (jog your memories here, readers), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up is bringing together former members of the teams that woked on Nintendo's Smash Bros. series and Team Ninja - handlers of the Dead or Alive franchise.

The latest edition of UK mag NGamer has shed some much-needed light on the promising beat 'em up.

  • The game will feature "dark, gritty graphics".
  • There are some realworld-inspired locations such as a Manhattan skyline, a motel roof and an unspecified jungle area.
  • Defeat your opponents by depleting their health meter, or by a stage knock-out (a la Smash Bros).
  • There are some context-sensitive moves, and no motion-controlled attacks, although motion will be used in other aspects of the game.
  • Levels will change as you fight. You'll start in one location and end up in another.
  • Eat pizza to restore health.
  • Peter Laird (TMNT co-creator) is writing the single-player story.
  • The turtles and Splinter are the only confirmed playable characters at this point. Characters form Mirage's (comic publisher) range will fill out the roster.
  • 4-player online reconfirmed.

Quite a concept. TMNT: Smash Up is due for release this Autumn.

Update! The first two official screens of the title have been released!

The sewer area is just one location fans should be familiar with. Nice water effects!

Fighters have a glowing backlight to help players distinguish them from one another. Good job, someone could get hurt otherwise...
