Nintendo of America makes a brief comment on the 3DS circle pad add-on that's caused the Internet to go atwitter.

Wednesday's surprising unveiling of an add-on for the Nintendo 3DS that adds a second circle pad, via the latest issue of Famitsu, caused a great deal of shock amongst the gaming community. Fans quickly shared their thoughts and opinions about the subject matter but we still haven't heard much from Nintendo so far.

Kotaku contacted Nintendo of America for a comment on the issue that has rattled Nintendo fans. Their response was brief but at least confirmed that the add-on is Nintendo's, not Capcom's as some assumed it to be.

"We can confirm that Nintendo plans to release the Circle Pad attachment, but Nintendo's regional subsidiaries will make further announcements about its availability at a later date."

Nintendo usually plays coy until they are ready to make an official announcement so while it's not confirmation that it will be released in the West it is at least not the standard "we have no plans to release this in other territories" response. With Nintendo still not saying much about the attachment all eyes are on next week's big announcement, due to take place on September 13th.
