News: Nintendo Says 3DS Price Cut is Good for All

In his recent shareholders meeting Satoru Iwata claims the 3DS price drop is good for developers and retailers, as well as gamers of course.

While fans welcomed the news that the 3DS would be slashed in price by as much as 40% worldwide shareholders seemed a bit more worried. Speaking to Nintendo's investors last week Satoru Iwata outlined why the price cut was good for developers and retailers, and why that is, in turn, good for Nintendo.

Mr. Iwata notes that publishers have claimed that they betted on games released on the 3DS to sell without question but this has not been the case and they are Nintendo are trying to rectify that with the price cut. According to Andriasang Satoru Iwata stated that publishers fear the price is putting people off and thus, in turn, resulting in poor sales for software. According to Mr. Iwata since informing them that they are introducing a price cut they are much more relieved, which will hopefully mean less games get cancelled in the future.

Retailers however don't have it quite as well. Mr. Iwata admits that retails will be losing more of their profit margin with the price cut but is quick to mention that it will help expand other aspects of the 3DS within retail, presumably software and peripherals. In order to please retailers Nintendo has also introduced a "price protection" policy that will see Nintendo refund the difference in price for any previously purchased hardware to the retailer.
