News: No Shiren 2 For Europe

Bad news for fans of the Roguelike: it looks like Sega have no interest in releasing Shiren 2 in the west.

Games that traverse markets under the Mystery Dungeon sails seem to have mixed fortunes at sea. Nintendo's own line of the Pokemon spin-offs have been bafflingly successful worldwide, while the much more tradtional, hardcore games by Chunsoft seem to remain relatively unknown outside Japan.

Shiren the Wanderer was originally released on the Super Famicom in 1995, but was re-released by Sega on DS earlier this year. Tragically, its sequel will not be getting the same worlwide treatment, no doubt down to the tiny market the original games have in America and Europe. A Sega rep had this to say:

Unfortunately we do not plan to release this game in Europe as far as I know. You can keep on looking at our website from time to time.

But all is not lost, Europeans! Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer is still available on shelves for those who think they're hardy enough for some hardcore cave-crawling.
