Nintendo Direct showcases new games, updates and remasters

After some hype over the last few days, Nintendo dropped a Nintendo Direct Mini today and it came with a plethora of announcements.

Starting with new games, Nintendo unveiled Mario Tennis Aces for the Nintendo Switch. The sport title will be released this spring and promises to be a multiplayer go-to game, but with a single-player story mode too.

They also gave a date for Kirby Star Allies, which will be gracing the Nintendo Switch on March 16th.

Moving on to third party titles, the brutal Dark Souls: Remastered will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on May 25th, while the cult DS title The World Ends with You  will also be getting remastered and released later this year.

A number of other third party titles were also given release dates, including PAYDAY 2 (23rd February), Fe (16th February), Celeste (25th January), Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Summer), SNK HEROINES Tag Team Frenzy (Summer) and ACA NEOGEO ART OF FIGHTING 2 (today!).

Nintendo also announced that the Wii U title Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be coming to the Switch, with a brand new beginner-friendly mode featuring Funky Kong.  His move set, which includes a spike-resistant surfboard, double jump, hover and infinite rolls and underwater corkscrews will allow novice players to enjoy the title when it launches on May 4th.

Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch this spring.

Keen to continue supporting their released titles, Nintendo also announced several popular games will be seeing updates.

A free update to Super Mario Odyssey in February will add a new mini-game called Balloon World, which will also see Luigi come to the game as he's in charge of the mini-game.  There are two modes; 'hide it' and 'find it'.  No prizes for guessing what they do.  The update will also add new outfits and Snapshot Mode filters.

A new DLC pack, known as Battle Pack, is also available to purchase now for Pokkén Tournament DX.  The DLC will unlock different content as time goes by.  This month adds Aegislash as a new battle Pokémon and Mega Rayquaza and Mimikyu as support Pokémon. From March 23rd Blastoise will be added as a playable Pokémon, while Mew and Celebi will be support Pokémon.

Surprise hit Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is also getting new DLC that adds Donkey Kong to the game, as well as new levels and a new story. Nintendo's monkey will be able to use a boomerang banana to bash baddies.  Be sure to watch the announcement trailer to see him in action.

Finally, a demo of Dragon Quest Builders has also been released today.
