Both versions of Smash Bros. to be shown at E3 2013

One title that gamers are constantly after is a new Smash Bros., so it's no wonder that Iwata felt the need to address this issue in the latest Nintendo Direct. He stated that at E3 in June, screens of the new Smash Bros. title will be shown...

That is seemingly not enough though, as series director Masahiro Sakurai took to twitter today to say that he wants to showcase the handheld version as well.

According to a rough translation, courtesy of IGN, Sakurai says "Wii U and 3DS versions -- I would like to show you both."

We may be getting more than just screens though, if his other tweet is to be believed. "Other games have had visuals shown, but you still have to wait for Smash Bros. But we'll be able to release something better." Something better, you say? That alone has got avid Smash fans frothing at the mouth like an excitable Birdo.

It's interesting that Sakurai stated he would like to show both versions. Could this could point towards a bigger focus on the 3DS to Wii U link than we first thought? He stated earlier in 2012 that "I'll come up with something that uses that link as the game's central axis, so I hope you're looking forward to it."

Just what could make the link between the 3DS and Wii U versions so good? And could Miyamoto's rumblings about the return of GBA to GameCube connectivity have been a huge hint towards this title?

At the moment, there is a lot of guess work going on, so we'll leave you to dissect all the information until June. Join in the debate on our forums, or leave us a comment below.
