Games Day: Zelda Impressions

Legend of Zelda At last I was able to play the game that caused so much controversy the last couple of months. I had seen the screens, I had seen the movies and of course I'd read the previews and impressions of other people. And now I could finally decide for myself whether I really liked it or not.

After playing it for 20 minutes I'm happy to conclude that The Legend of Zelda for GameCube is a worthy game that lives up to the expectations of the famous Zelda series.

The version I played was the E3 version, with six different levels. One of them was a mini-game where you had to collect coins with the sailboat, another one was a fight with an end-boss, a dragon, and the rest were regular levels.

I spent most of my time playing those normal levels, since they show me best what the game is like. The level I liked best was a castle where Link's sister was held in prison. You had to solve different puzzles to continue, and make sure the guards didn't see you, or you'd be thrown in prison yourself, which you had to escape again.

The graphics looked very good. Celshaded or not, this game definitely gives you that special Zelda feeling. The way Link's expression changes when he hears or notices something strange, adds much to the quality of the game, it just makes it all funnier.
Unfortunately, the sound of all TV's was turned off, so I can't give you my opinion on it.

The controls were good, especially since the upper right corner of the screen shows you what button does what, like in the N64 Zelda games.

This games is definitely gonna be a success. If you're still doubting about the celshaded-thing (sigh), just play it as soon as you have the opportunity and I'm 100% sure you'll change your mind.
