Gex Trilogy Announced for Switch

All 3 of the Gex titles released in the 90’s will be arriving as a trilogy on Nintendo Switch thanks to Limited Run games.

Gex the gecko is obsessed with TV and must traverse the “media dimension” in the original 2D platformer from the 1995, sporting pre-rendered graphics similar to those seen in Donkey Kong Country.

Known for its references to TV and film, along with some mentions of our own Super Mario, the original Gex was praised at the time for its humour when it released on the PS1, 3DO and Sega Saturn.

Gex: Enter The Gecko arrived three years after the original, and was a 3D platformer taking heavy inspiration from Mario 64. Not only did it take inspiration from the N64, it was also the first in the Gex series to release on it, arriving on both the PS1 and N64 in 1998.

Ex-Simpsons script writer Rob Cohen came aboard for the sequel, Enter The Gecko, to continue the series staple humour.

The third title, Deep Cover Gecko, built upon the 3D gameplay found in the second title, improving upon every aspect by providing bigger worlds, better textures and additional gameplay elements such as swimming, gliding and the use of vehicles. Deep Cover Gecko released on the PS1 and N64 in the year 2000, ending the tenure of Gex.

And so it is here, 23 years later, that we will finally be able to play Gex on modern consoles. There is no release date just yet for the trilogy, but stay tuned as N-Europe will let you know when this radical 90’s film buff makes his way to our videogame consoles once more.
