Final Fantasy in mah Mario?! True story. Read on for details...

Nintendo today revealed a special crossover for its upcoming sports compilation Mario Sports Mix. Developer Square-Enix is set to include several of its own characters from various Final Fantasy games to the roster.

The move may not be totally surprising though, as so far the characters are the same ones that were available in Mario Hoops 3-on-3, the DS basketball game also developed by the Final Fantasy studio. The characters so far confirmed are Moogle, Cactuar, Ninja, the White Mage Shirma and the Black Mage Croma.

It's not known whether more third party characters will be added to the roster, but interestingly, the game's official website makes a specific copyright allusion to the characters of Dragon Quest, leading some to wonder whether we won't see some Slimes in the final version of the game.

Featuring volleyball, hockey, basketball, dodgeball and online play, Mario Sports Mix is set to go on sale in the west in Q1 of 2011.
