News: Go! Go! Kokopolo Announced For DS

The latest issue of NGamer features a developer diary of a brand new DS game entitled Go! Go! Kokopolo.

Issue #29 of NGamer Magazine features an interesting new article - a developer diary written by Keith Webb, who has worked as a concept artist on the Crash Bandicoot and Super Monkey Ball franchises (in addition to working on storyboards for The Simpsons), and is now working on a new game for the Nintendo DS.

Go! Go! Kokopolo is an action-puzzler starring a vicious wildcat who has been rudely awoken from a deep slumber. The main character, Kokopolo, acts as an antihero, with all enemies and bosses not being neccessarily bad, but rather unwittingly caught up in the sadistic antics of the cat (Webb describes him as "the ultimate trickster, scratching innocent animals at will, and luring them into deadly traps in a typically comic style"). The game takes place in a tropical setting, with 'lush jungles and sparkling waterfalls' adorning the lovely 2D backdrops.

Webb says that Go! Go! Kokopolo has a very Japanese feel to it (this is evident from the screenshots and concept art), with Taito and Hudson Soft's older retro titles cited as a few of his influences.

Apparently, any concept art that isn't used to create the final game will be transferred over to the Wii sequel, Kokopolo Paradise, which should be done in 2012.

To see concept art, screenshots and more information, be sure to pick up NGamer Magazine when the latest issue goes on sale over the next few days.
