News: Mario Kart 7 Ends 2011 Top in Japan

Mario Kart 7 caps 2011 off by topping the chart and becoming the best selling game of the year...

The Media Create charts for the last week of 2011 come slightly late because of the holidays, but the numbers are now in, and it epitomises a year of success for 3DS.

Sales for everything were down significantly from the pre-Christmas week, but it was still the big 3DS games dominating the upper tier of the software chart. Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri G just fell short of topping a million units sold in 2011, but at its current rate, the publisher's 1.2m target for the end of March is looking in serious danger of annihilation.

The software chart for the week of December 26th to January 1st is as follows.

Hardware was naturally down across the board, but that didn't stop 3DS from having an almost awkward lead over everything else. It's tradition for sales to be bounce back up over the New Year period, so expect a bit of a spike next week.
