News: Mario Kart Wii Top In Japan

The recently released Mario Kart Wii is doing well for itself in Japan with over one million units sold, don’t you know?

The latest Media Create chart data tells us one thing: the Japanese love Mario Kart Wii. The title released on 10 April in Japan has gone on to top the country’s software sales chart against competition such as Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and WiiFit, selling approximately 173,000 units, adding up to make total sales of it weigh in around the 1,120,000 region.

The complete hardware sales are as follows:

Mario Kart Wii – 173,000 (1,120,000)
Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP) – 102,000 (1,909,000)
Link’s Crossbow Training – 93,000 (N/A)
WiiFit – 52,000 (1,986,000)
Meccha! Taiko Drum Master DS: 7-tsu No Shima No Daibouken – 42,000 (98,000)
Pokémon Ranger: Batonnage – 31,000 (508,000)
Boura Wa Kaseki Holder – 27,000 (84,000)
Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) – 24,000 (102,000)
Deca Sports – 24,000 (186,000)
Wii Sports – 22,000 (2,959,000)

It’s often easy to forget how big a number one million is, and with that said Kart has done very well in Japan. However, these figures have come in at the wrong time – Grand Theft Auto IV is out on the X360 and PS3 and sold 609,000 units on the first day alone (yes, that is a record)!
