News: More Balance Board Info

More information on the new scales, as well as more developer support...

We have some more tidbits on the Wii Balance Board.

As you all know, the Balance Board is like an advanced set of scales that measures weight and centre of gravity. It connects to the Wii wirelessly, so it needs power. That power will be given via 4 AA batteries - unfortunately no details on how long these will last were given.

Secondly, the size of the Balance Board isn't final. In a 1up interview Miyamoto says:

"We're going to launch in Japan first and get feedback and decide if we need to make something that's American-sized. We may need to super-size! We've been testing with Reggie. (laughs) Ideally we'd like to release one size Balance Board worldwide."

So, it seems that Nintendo will be altering the size of the Balance Board to suit each region. But what about price? Well, EBgames in the US has listed Wii Fit for the price of $69.99US - $20 more than a normal Wii game, which could equate for a 50-60 game in the UK. Please note that this may just be a retail guess, and retail guesses are usually more than the product eventurally sells for.

Finally, Motomu Toriyama of Square-Enix has stated that they are interested in utilising the Balance Board features for use in their RPG games. How they will use it will be left to pure speculation...I mean, who want to play a 60-hour RPG while standing up the whole time?
