News: Pokémon Trainer Playable In Smash!

Fighting entirely with Pokémon, the newest playable character to be revealed in Smash Bros. Brawl is... a Pokémon Trainer!

Always full of surprises, today's update of the Smash Bros. Dojo!! blog reveals another newcomer to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The Nintendo-centric Wii fighter will feature Pokémon Trainer as a playable character, who fights entirely through one of three Pokémon he can switch out and set to attack at any one time.

To clarify, gamers will be controlling the Pokémon, not the trainer - who'll take no physical part in the battle, and will stand in the background! The Pokémon Trainer has three monsters at his command - Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard, all of whom can be sent out to attack the other characters.

Only one is allowed to battle at each time, and by using the "Pokémon Change" move, the Trainer can recall his current monster to replace it with the next. The Pokémon always switch in the same order: Squirtle > Ivysaur > Charizard, and damage taken by each Pokémon is shared all on the same damage stat - so switching them around won't mean the damage counter is reset.

Additionally, using the same Pokémon for too long without switching will cause tiredness, which weakens the monster's capabilities. Paradoxically, switching the monsters too often will also cause this problem.

Its another interesting new game-play dynamic for Brawl, which really seems to be pulling out all the stops. And being able to fight as Charizard? Awesome.
