News: Professor Layton and the Launch Day Success

Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles was the biggest selling 3DS launch title in Japan.

It would appear that Japanese gamers prefer puzzles to puppies and punching as Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles was the biggest selling 3DS launch title in Japan over the weekend.

Kotaku report that 117,589 Professor Layton units were sold, meaning that nearly one in three gamers bought the title alongside the console. There were only eight games released with the console but it even surpassed Nintendo's own Nintendogs + cats.

Earlier reports that the 3DS had sold 400,000 units have now been adjusted to reflect finalised figures. The console actually sold 371,326 units over the whole weekend, although demand still remains high in Japan and more shipments are expected in the coming month.
