Long rumoured, Sega today confirmed that it would release Sonic Classic Collection on Nintendo DS early next year.

The anthology of titles includes the original Sonic the Hedgehog, its two sequels Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, and fan-favourite Sonic & Knuckles.

Sega promises that the collection will take full advantage of the DS's unique hardware. One new feature includes the ability to save at any point - making it a perfect fit for on-the-go play. A wealth of extras include special videos and concept art, similar to the like found in the GameCube release Sonic Mega Collection.

Sonic Classic Collection is expected to release in March of next year.
