News: Smash Bros Online Confirmed

The official Super Smash Bros. Brawl website confirms the existence of a 4-player online mode...

The Smash Bros. Dojo today confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Brawl will have an online mode.

There are two main types - "With Friends" and "With Anyone". There will be no region locking for the online mode like Mario Strikers Charged Football, and Sakurai warns us that we may encounter some lag. He apologises in advance for that.

In the friend match mode, you can see the status of any registered friends, their name, logo (which can include Miis), and a custom message. Before a match, you can enter 4 short messages which can be used mid-game via the D-pad. You can select your own settings in this mode.

In the "With Anyone" section, you can't see your opponents' names or send short messages. Brawl does not keep track of any battle records in this mode.

And a nice little extra - when you are waiting for you opponents to make their selections you get to kick around a punchbag. Furthermore, there will be more uses of the online system. Stay tuned for later updates regarding that.
