News: Sony Unhappy With Nintendo/Square

GameCubeNetwork.com reported the following today:

Sony were left in the dark by Squaresoft on details of their deal with Nintendo, it was reported today. As it was widely publicised earlier this month, Square announced that they would finally drop their rift between Nintendo, and develop games specifically for the Game Boy Advance and GameCube through a new venture called Game Developer Studios Ltd.

Nikkei Shimbun, Sony's public relations director said this when asked of the matter: "We welcome the fact that Square plans to expand profits by supporting the GameBoy Advance, but we questioned any plans to develop Final Fantasy titles for GameCube.". Looks like Squaresoft left out their 14-percent financial stakeholders. Woops.

Square president Yoichi Wada admitted "We took every precaution prior to the Nintendo announcement, but I don't think Sony was pleased." Talk about it. We'll hope that this won't be the beginning of the end for Squaresoft games on Sony consoles.
